Hello all,

I, like everyone else am trying to lose weight. The trouble is, I know what to eat and not to eat, it’s my mind set that needs changing. I hate myself. I am short and obese. I was called to doctors this week because my blood cholesterol was the highest it’s been and with there being a family history of high cholesterol, puts me at a higher risk of a heart attack and a stroke. I have a good healthy diet but I am a comfort eater and I like my wine which, is empty calories. I currently weigh 79 kilos. The only good news was that my good cholesterol was higher than normal. I have arthritis and I get frustrated because every time I exercise, it flares up and I am back to square one. So sorry for whining. Bramble60. X

Hi and welcome, Bramble60 :)

Many of us arrived here thinking we knew what we should be eating, only to have those beliefs turned on their heads, so I suggest you do some research, to see if you're one of those people. Here are some starters for you phcuk.org/wp-content/upload... Pay particular attention to the chapter about saturated fat/cholesterol.

The Skinny on Obesity is a 6 part series and is really interesting. Here's the first part youtube.com/watch?v=h0zD1gj...

Follow this link to our chat thread and a list of all the activities we run. We've found active participation to be key to success, especially with our weigh-ins and Daily Diary.

Welcome. I totally understand as I am exactly the same. I could give lectures on healthy eating an weight loss but just can't do it myself. Comfort eating and mindless bingeing are my habits. I'm currently 91 kilos so even heavier than you. I'm sure you'll find plenty of advice and support on here. Maybe we can encourage each other. Good luck x

Thank you Lindylou31, I found out this week that my cholesterol is the highest it’s been and high cholesterol for me is a higher risk because of family history. Hope you are doing really well! X

Have you read the links and watched the video moreless has given above? It may help you reconsider the healthy eating approach that is stopping you losing weight

I have arthritis in my knees so I swim 4 times a week. It is a great form of non-weight bearing exercise. Where is your arthritis most painful?

Hi jubbly1955, I know swimming is a great exercise but I find it boring plus, I am ashamed of how I look. I have arthritis in my shoulders, hands and knees. I also have back problems. X

That’s a shame. Maybe look at some seated exercises on you tube. 😊

Hi, Bramble60 , Welcome.

Not Eating All Day aka Intermittent Fasting is good for weight-loss, Arthritis and inflammation (particularly if you combine it with the Low-Carbohydrate, High-Fat diet). See:

i know what you about the arthritis mine has played me up this last week resulting in no exercise so i know tomorrows weigh-in wont be good but hey-ho next week will be better (he says hopefully) so will not allow my self to be upset by it all you can do is put it behind you and carry on there will be a light at the end of the tunnel even if some days it seems really dark

Hello Lytham, I get down hearted because every time I commit to exercise one of my body parts give up and set me back. On top of that, I get a constant cough for at least 2 hours if I exert myself, that includes having a good belly laugh. I now know that it is down to very early stages of asbestosis. Xx

Welcome to the forum.

I suggest that you go slow on the exercise, at least until you lose weight. It would add extra stress, pain and disappointment now.

When you get lighter, the exercise ought to be easier.
