Newbie - Day 1 tomorrow - Hello

Hello folks I am sat here feeling crap, bloated, chair shaped, no energy, etc - the other day my little girl said to me mummy all you ever do is sit in that chair! She's 6, she's right I need to get off my arse. I have never been this big and I'm not sure what's happened?? I was always slim all up until about 36 then booom...In my head I am still about a size 12/ 14 so I buy clothes that don't even come close to fitting me and I don't understand it - my new weight perception has not caught up yet and I don't recognise myself in the mirror - What!! That's not me!! Disbelief.

I have exercised regularly before and even when I really couldn't be bothered beforehand I dragged myself to the gym and felt brill afterwards. I like the endorphin reward from exercise, it cheers me up. I've tried slimming world - worked the first time, second time I loathed going to the groups and felt like a fraud. Tried the 5:2 and exercising on my fasting days - felt like punishment - I might need to chuck myself into something extreme like work-outs everyday- to get into the mind-set then once I am...I am. I just haven't got started for the past few years...

I love food!! I eat way too much, massive portion sizes and way too much salt - and well anything really - no rules. Hence why I look like this, my skin is also horrible and I feel fed up ..... my aim is to not look like a bloated beached whale - or feel like one on my bday / photos as it's a memorable one - the big 40 in a few months - so, I'll start with that and take it from there!

Hope you are all doing well - All tips welcome! Anyone just starting out like me and need a buddy?

Day one tomorrow here we come.........

We’ve all been there and had “that” moment of realisation!

You’re not alone, this is a very friendly group, everyone’s is supportive

There’s plenty of events to involve yourself in.

For me the trick is planning!

I plan my meals a week in advance and buy food according to the list, I prep as much as I can and I use my fitness pal to log food - you could post in the Daily Diary to help you feel more accountable too!

It’s great that you live exercising - you could perhaps try the C25K app and get back into it!

You could weigh in on one of the weigh in post - this will give you support and encouragement to continue - whether you lose, gain or stay the same!

Good Luck xxxx

Thank you for the warm welcome :) I am just navigating myself around. I don't have a phone so can't use apps (I don't think?) but yes I would like to join in with the weigh ins and daily diary to keep myself involved and motivated and to connect with others doing so - looking forward to it

Maybe look at a few exercise challenges to get me started

Hello and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum Fitformybday 😊

Well done on taking the first step too fitter healthier you. We have all been where you are now and all I can say is try to be a little kinder to yourself. Your weight doesn’t not define you as a person.

The best advice I can give is have enough to eat. If you are following the NHS 12 Week plan then the 1400/1900 calorie target suggested is a just generic amount, please check your own personal calorie target using the BMI checker, it’s often higher than you think. We always advise starting towards the top of the range, being hungry is the biggest cause of weight loss failure.

Exercise is very good for lots of reasons but rarely helps weight loss, for that you need to eat properly, and I hope you will read a few posts on here and find an eating plan that suits you. As women age the way they process carbohydrates changes, please read this post but don’t be offended by the title, it applies to everyone healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

We've found active participation to be key to success, especially with our weigh-ins and Daily Diary. Follow this link to our chat thread and a list of all the activities we run healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

If you haven’t already, then please read the Welcome post here which has lots of useful information about all the things we have on offer. healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

I’ve just joined too. I started eating healthy and gym a few months back now but I gave up too quickly, I have a 6 year old and just turned 7 month old and with being tired and stressed I turn to junk food 🙈 I realised the other day how big I’d got and it just made me feel so rubbish. So day one tomorrow ! I can do this ! I would love to just feel comfy in my clothes again. I just need the motivation to get me there.

You'd be very welcome at the Thursday weigh-in, too. I've just given Quin48 the link. They're not a very big group in number but very big in friendliness and encouragement healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Morning Sophjoy - I know how you feel! Day one for us! Lets buddy up.... We can do this - I am feeling positive this morning - going to weigh myself at work and report back later in the diary! It's a bit chaotic in my house in the mornings - getting out of the house is an achievement! But I have started the day off with an omelette this morning and ate it in the garden :D

Hi fitformybday,

Welcome, you've made a great move joining here. I tend to 'stalk and lurk' and am very aware of the support, advice and friendship offered. I still have a shedload of weight to lose and keeping motivated can be difficult at times.

Everyone experiences differently, one size does not fit all but here you'll find you get responses that will assist you, or maybe just lift your mood a little.

Wishing you great success, you can do anything you set your mind on, womanpower xxxx

Hi. The problem is probably thinking of yourself as fat, rather than “getting slim and healthy.” Your ideal self is out there. You’ve just got to go and find her.

Fitformybday profile image
Fitformybday in reply to Geetarplayer

Thanks Geetarplayer - I think my self body perception is all wonky at the moment and when I see an image or reflection of myself it doesn't feel like me as in my minds eye I'm still the slim person I was before?? except I'm not and need a reality check that things have got out of hand.

Hello Fitformybday from my sunny back garden.

I can so identify with everything you’ve written in your message !!!

The whole size/ clothes denial thing is a weird one, isn’t it?!

My suggestion would be to set yourself small manageable goals then you won’t feel so bad if you have a ‘bad’ day. Keep a food diary & eat off smaller plates to help restrict portion sizes.

Ditch the gym! Go walking every day instead. After the school drop off, walk round the park and then it’ll set you up for the day.

Be kind to yourself & coach yourself as you would your best friend.

All the best,

Fi
