Went for a photo shoot today, good fun very warm and lengthy, but when I saw the photo one in particular upset me because I looked like a beached whale, feeling low 😟

Hi Bluelu ,

I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t like the way the photo looked. Is there a way you can try to get another photo done? Try to relax and take it easy. Do you do meditation?

Glad you had a good day Bluelu though sorry you're upset now.

I don't know how you've been progressing since you joined but when I get upset like that I try to harness those feelings to change things and use them to focus more.

When you joined, IndigoBlue61 mentioned that active participation here is generally the key to success. Why not make those first changes now and join today's weigh-in and the Daily Diary!

Good luck!

Let the photo be your motivator. People face these demons and put them on fridges or places they will have a reminder.

Great idea Greenman.

Yesterday there was a moment when I was just in my jeans and I caught sight of my midriff in the mirror... Not pretty at all :( I'm actually going to take a photo of me today and do just what you've said. Lol... it might keep others away from it too :O

Sorry you’re feeling down Bluelu but as others have said, maybe focus on this and use it push yourself forward 👍

Also, I know you have been told before, but active participation really is key. Follow this link to our chat thread and a list of all the activities we run.

There is a chance it's a really bad photo!

My fiance is tiny, he's short and toned (not a lot of big muscles but everything is toned and he doesn't have an itch of fat on him).

Anyway, the other day he asked me if he had a stomach...and showed me a photo which had been taken of him the day before. I almost laughed because it looked NOTHING like him. He looked overweight, which he definitely isn't!!

We all have bad photos taken of us, no matter what our size.

However, if you're losing weight DO NOT delete that photo. Photos were my biggest motivation when I was losing weight. Even now I still like looking back at my 'before' photos. I had a photo taken of me during my birthday which was my motivation to lose weight...what kept me motivated was looking at the picture and thinking 'its only going to get better from here'.

Bluelu , I know it's really, really hard but try and remove the way your body looks from your feelings of self-worth. Try to re-frame how you think about your body by writing a list of all the awesome things it lets you do: move through the world, hug your loved ones, taste delicious food. You only have one body, it deserves your love and respect as it is right now and as it will be in the future.

Look, as a guy, I really feel for some of the women here who place too much emphasis on how they look. I know we all have our “perfect selves” to aspire to. Good! We need to do as well as we can to improve our health and getting and maintaining a healthy weight is part of it. That’s why I like this forum as opposed to the “I want to be a supermodel” crass sites.

Don’t forget though, that the slinky girls that are portrayed as attractive have usually been photographed a few hundred times to get the perfect shot, and the photoshopped out of existence.

Beauty isn’t them, it’s you turning around and smiling at someone you love and the sun catching you a certain way, or you reading a book and looking intelligent or looking a million different ways.

I was going to leave you a comment along the lines of 'the way we look and what we weigh doesn't define us' but actually Geetarplayer has worded it better than I could.

I have been there with the photo's and can understand what you are saying. Those other people in the photo's with you, only see a person they love.

Be kind to yourself. Today is a new day :)

I think a lot of guys do feel this way, though media, mainstream and social are doing their best to undermine individuality and telling people what they should like. We must rebel against this! Love to you all!
