Broken ankle=weight gain

Hi. I've recently fractured my ankle. This means that my 14000 step goal each day is now down to 2000 which in turn has led to a weight gain of almost a stone. I had given up smoking 3 months previously. Working 2 jobs and always busy plus walking kept me off smoking and maintained my weight. I'm now back on smoking and my weight is also riding due to being immobile and bored. I'm hoping this site will help me with some tips and motivation.

Hi Smokeybandit. Sorry to hear about your ankle. I slipped on ice during the winter and broke mine in 2 places and ripped a tendon, I was off my feet for weeks and it was so difficult not to comfort eat or eat through boredom . I appreciate quiting the smoking leaves a gap to be filled and your hands at a loose end (I stopped 2yrs ago). I knit which saved me, I knitted 4 Aran jumpers for my grandkids during my time immobile and the patterns took my mind off food and my hands were kept busy. Is there a craft or hobby you could do that may help. It's a difficult time, hope your ankle heals quickly. Xx

Hi Jints. I started knitting a jumper for myself last time I fell and injured myself (2 years ago!) Back front and a sleeve complete! Time to get it finished. Would love to learn to crochet too, so I'll be looking into that thanks

Welcome Smokeybandit. Sorry to hear about your ankle and all that's ensued since.

Boredom can be pretty difficult to deal with (I know :( ).

Wishing you all the best with stopping the cigs again and I'm guessing, stopping that snacking. Maybe have a look at the Daily Diary.

Hello and welcome Smokeybandit 😊. You have my sympathy, I’m currently recuperating from ankle surgery and will be on crutches for another couple of months, it’s very hard to not eat all day long through boredom.

I’m glad you’re feeling better today 😊 Keep in touch and let us know hoe you’re getting on. Have you seen the Daily chat thread? healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...
