Hidden benefit of weight loss!

Been meaning to say this for a while but I have noticed I am getting more milage in the car than usual since I've lost weight! At first I thought maybe it was weather related. But we had snow, sunshine and rain over the past three months or so. I always reset my milage counter when I top up petrol which is how I know.

I got an extra 8 miles for my buck! Usually get 165 miles for £30 of petrol. Got 173 this time before topping up today.

A side effect of lower weight for the car to drag around? Lol

Do you measure the volume of the fuel, i.e. do you always put like 25l? Not money, as the volume would fluctuate by the price. I am just asking because you mentioned £30.

It is a good observation, though, never thought of it.

Hm. Impressive then. Any other thoughts? Please see my message in this thread to Vale57.

I gauge my shape change by my stomach not rubbing on the steering wheel. Being so short i have to be at full stops on the seat to reach the peddles. a ha ha.

Another nice observation! 😀

Any other observations? For example easier to bend when pumping tyres?

Easier to come in/out of the car?

The car behaves differently when sitting in/coming out (I mean the car lowers when someone sits in)?

Not struggling when reaching for something in the car, e.g. safety belt?

Easier neck, shoulder movement when looking around when parking?

Happy to park farther from the entrance, i.e. when shopping, because no struggle to walk with bags?

Just some ideas how driving can benefit from weight management.

May post this for a debate...

As we get leaner, lighter and fitter we burn fewer calories per mile ...walking, cycling or running... so we would expect this if you were pushing the car - or using a pedal-car!

The theory is that, as you lose weight you feel younger - and younger people tend to drive faster and get higher fuel consumption.

If you feel younger and your increasing age has made you wiser and drive more sedately... you have a double benefit.

...but you would not want to too literally "have your cake and eat it"?

Lol I am very conscientious about how I drive for maximum benefit! For instance I try to go 65mph max unless overtaking (in 70mph zones whilst others are zooming past at 80-100mph) because your not supposed to go over 3 rpm for better fuel consumption. And of course watching the road well to slow down if lights are changing ahead so by the time you get to them you can go without ever needing to stop and start from first gear again!

Is definitely a 'wiser with age' thing haha. Maybe. I don't think I feel younger since I turned 40 last week but I do feel fitter and the best I've ever looked! When I was "young" like 20 I had no confidence, thought myself ugly and babyfaced, plastered myself in make up (wouldn't dare be seen without even lippy on!). And I drove but nervously so only local area!

Wow I am so different now!!

I turn 70 next month - so I hope I am "wiser with age" as well as lighter, leaner and feeling younger!
