frustrated and need advice.

Hi. I am new to the forum. I have been calorie counting since early January. I am pretty consistent with my 1400 cals (I go over at weekends sometimes). I am very active. I walk everywhere, run and do HIIT exercises every week. I do all of this but can not shift any weight! None! Nada!

I have measured myself and I have lost an inch around my waist and hips! But that is all in three months.

Does anyone have any advice? It’s just so frustrating.

Thanks

Hi and welcome, BaseJaxx :)

Have you put your details into the NHS BMI calculator, as 1400 calories is a generic amount and unsuitable for the majority of us. If you under eat, you'll put your body into starvation mode. Have a look at this healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

If this is not the case, then you may need to look at an alternative way of eating, as all calories are not equal. Have a look at this phcuk.org/wp-content/upload... It's working for many of us.

Follow this link to our chat thread and a list of all the activities we run. We've found active participation to be key to success, especially with our weigh-ins and Daily Diary

Hi! I too was / am frustrated with the scale not moving. There can be all sorts of reasons for why that is, but for me this is my general take on it:

1) Focus on how I feel now and other benefits. I'm eating healthily, moving more, and that's making me feel great and making my day to day life easier and more enjoyable. I now love exercising and count it as one of my hobbies. I am slowly moving away from eating recreationally (food used to be my hobby and my stress relief!) and replacing it with other hobbies has had other benefits - making friends, doing interesting stuff with my son, etc. What other benefits has your healthy lifestyle given you?

2) Inches lost is great! Our bodies are weird things and you are clearly moving in the right direction. The scale not changing can be due to water retention, muscle mass vs fat loss etc. Weight loss is not the same as fat loss remember; we want to lose fat and not muscle. I once had a BodyPod measurement (where they put you in a capsule that looks like something from Cocoon lol) and a year later had it done again. I'd lost 2lb in that whole year, I was super frustrated and sad and angry, but the body pod showed I'd lost 10lb of fat and put on 8lb of muscle (which is hard for women to do!) So it's not always evident in the scale.

3) I check I've not become complacent. I can take shortcuts and eyeball things and forget to track certain things. I do a day of Super Tracking just to make sure I have my eye on portions and actual values, just in case something has crept in.

4) I try to relax and enjoy my new lifestyle. It is after all meant to be my new way of living, so I make sure I'm having fun and not feeling like I'm sacrificing or missing out. I try to make sensible choices on the weekend, but if I fancy something, I have it, and I try not to beat myself up about it (still a work in progress!)

Hope that helps and I really understand where you are coming from. Good luck!

Wow that bodypod thing sounds so interesting! And what a great result - well done you! Reading about all your exercise BaseJaxx , that could be part of your answer

Hi I'm sorry you are feeling frustrated & feel your pain as I was once in the same boat. I am now frustrated with the guide lines we are given. Some of it is good advice but a lot of it is archaic. I am studying health and nutrition and there is so much more you need to know than just reducing calories. I can't give advice as they will shut me down but what I will say is, just remember all calories are not equal... If you eat 1400 calories worth of veg you will lose weight more effectively than eating 1400 calories of processed food or snacks for example. I lost 2 stone as soon as I stopped dieting. You have to make a shift in your lifestyle not a diet. Also... sugar is the enemy, it stores as fat leaving the rest of your body craving nutrients and feeling hungry all the time. I hope you find this helpful. I'd like to tell you more but I'm afraid I will be seen to be seeking business. I am not, I just want everyone to feel as fit, healthy & happy as I do!

Welcome to the forum Hidden - not sure why you are saying you cant give advice or they'll shut you down ... as you have just given good advice in your post??

If you were to post links to adverts etc then you would likely have posts removed - the same as all of us so i'm not sure why you would think this.

I think the advice you have given to BaseJaxx is great and i'll 2nd it - it's about changing lifestyle and not just focusing on calories but eating "good" calories.

Thank you! I was worried they would think i am touting for business as i am training to be a health coach.

Don't worry - all advice on here is basically peer to peer support - no-one is an expert and all we are sharing is our opinions and best practice. That's all you've done too, and very sensible advice it is too

Thank you very much 😊

Thank you. I feel I am eating the right calories; fruit, veg, lean protein and whole meal bread etc. I cook from scratch. I eat the occasional treat but I feel my sugar intake is limited. I do love a craft beer whilst I am cooking dinner... perhaps that is part of the problem. I feel healthy/fit. I am just carrying too much weight around my middle.

Then I would say to stop worrying and keep on doing what you are. Maybe also bare in mind it’s very easy to underestimate calories. Also your waist measurement is much more important than a number on a scale. Trust the process & be patient 👍🏻
