Never felt comfortable

I have never felt comfortable in my own skin. From having my mom always ask me if i wanted to lose weight, to being put on HerbalLIfe as a kid, and then being teased; i was never 'thin'. I was chubby, and it wasnt till i hit my late teens that I really packed on the pounds. I have slowly started to accept my body and who i am, but want to be healthier and do want to lose weight. For the past 6 months i have been using Noom, and have lost 4KG - I have learnt to love myself more, but my eating still needs a lot of work. I dont want to have to eat salads all day, but i want to learn to make lovely roast veg, and portion control. At the moment i am eating between 1,400 - 1,700 calories and nothing is budging, so i must be doing something wrong. I walk for an hour every day - to work and back, and do after work exercise at least once a week, if not more. I just need some help and support

Hi, Nagappie , Welcome.

One of TeamAdmin will be along in a minute, and will give you the "Newbie Pack"

Congratulations on losing 4kg in six months: that is great.

I have not heard of Noom... are you no longer losing weight?

I walk for about an hour a day, and I think it helps.

This is a very supportive forum - and you will get a lot of help and support.

Well done on the 4K weight loss! Yes, it can feel like there is a mountain to climb but we just have to take it slowly. I have just started calorie counting too because I felt that I had forgotten what it was like to recognise being hungry!! I’m pretty sure I was eating out of boredom or comfort and it was a bit out of control. I can’t give any scientific advice on why you’re not losing weight at the moment but sometimes when you lose a bit at the start it can take a minute for your body to respond...and sometimes it just ebbs and flows. It can be really frustrating when you are putting in the effort and feeling like nothing is happening but I’m certain it WILL happen if you stick with it. I’m very impatient and

Struggle to keep it going at these times but these are the most important times to be consistent. I think you’ll see another difference soon! Good luck and keep up the great work!

Welcome Nagappie to our friendly forum :)

Well done on your weight loss so far.

I have never heard of Noom, but would guess you are having to pay out for it. I have had a quick look, but it won't give me much information without some details from me. Is it a calorie controlled diet? Do they promote eating good satiating fats, or is it based on low cal, diet foods?

You should not have to be eating salads all the time, you should be having a range of lovely foods, with good variety that keep you full from one meal to the other, without eating any low cal or diet food. If you are feeling hungry, you are not eating enough - there really is no reason to feel hunger. This is why most people give up.

I would suspect that you are not eating enough calories a day and that is why your weight loss has slowed down. Use the NHS BMI calculator to work out your own personal calorie allowance and aim for the top end. Eating too little will make your body think it is being starved and it will hang on to what it has.

Ahh! So, Noom I signed up for with a voucher. It worked really well in the beginning. They are all about understanding what you eat, eating more high dentistry foods and less processed foods and saturated sugars. But I never thought that eating too little would effect me? The BMI calculator says I should eat 1700-1900 which I’ve been told is too much for me? So I’m really confused

Did you read the article Eat more, weigh less? Don't be frightened, try around the 1800 mark for a couple of weeks and see what happens. There are many of us here that were frighted, but it honestly does work :)

So eat more of the good stuff basically? Because I’ve been trying to only eat 300 calories for a meal which is like a small piece of chicken and a handful of veg and that’s that

Yes, exactly. You could add a sauce, such as mushroom or cheese to your chicken. Use cream, butter and olive oil in your cooking, this will add calories without you having to eat a mountain of food, if you would find that off putting.

You could also have a pudding of full fat greek yoghurt with berries.

I am guessing that you are not eating white carbs, so the Low fat High Carb way of eating may well suit you.

Here is a link to one of our Administrator's journey using LCHF, it also have photo's of her meals, have a read and see if this sounds as though it may be the way to go,

Yeah I eat wholemeal pasta and bread but not often. Thank you for sharing!

You're welcome, just take the time to read everything thoroughly. Don't let it all become daunting and frightening. We all have to find our own way, but we can't do that until we have read a lot of information and educated ourselves. You will get there and we are here to help :)

So, I should be eating around 2,190 calories a day to lose weight. That just sounds so much to me because it goes against every other diet you’re ever told about! But I’m going to try it. Prep better meals and try and eat more of the good stuff

lucigret profile image
lucigret in reply to Nagappie

I'm not sure where you have got the figure of 2,190 from. You said the BMI calculator said to eat between 1,700 - 1,900?

Nagappie profile image
Nagappie in reply to lucigret

I redid the bmi calculator as well as at the bottom of one of the articles there was a different calculator and they both came out with about 2,000

Well done for being brave and giving it a go. Preparing better meals and eating more of the right things can only help. Maybe try doing some batch cooking so you always have something in the freezer to make life easier on busy days :)

Hey Nagappie, Welcome to you and blooming well done on losing 4kg! I also looked at Noom, before landing here, but found it a bit too new-fangled for an old cynic like me. Then I came across this forum about 6 weeks ago, and I've found it's great. Lots of supportive people and good info to be had. I'm losing weight slowly, but finding that coming here everyday is a positive experience making the whole process feel less like punishment/deprivation. Hopefully we can all help you to keep loving yourself - cos you deserve it. :-)
