Calories in a banana!

Ok I'm making a HUGE effort to be good and eat a banana tomorrow. But what is its calories? Online gives all these figures of 100g or a cup of a "medium" size.

My banana is 182g on the scale with its peel. When online says 100g is that peeled or weight unpeeled??

I peel mine then weigh. I agree sometimes the calories vary on mfp. Off top of my head medium 100g is around about 100 cals but don’t quote me. I go by generic Cals per item if I can 😊

100g generic is 89 cals so approx 9 Cals per 10g 😊

Is that weighing after peeling?

Yes approx - just found another generic 95 calls no skin 100g 🤣 so agree not easy but I’d go with 100 per 100g personally to be safe 👍🏻

Hello CrimsonMama NHS Calorie counter kids size (65g) 52 cals without skin

Personally, I feel that life is too short to spend it weighing bananas. When I asked my dietician (on the NHS) she said count a kid-sized one as 55 and a normal banana as 110. It’s a good enough estimate. No one ever put on weight over the difference between 50 and 55g of banana.

Lol the difference is if I can have (just as an example) 1500 calories for the day, knowing the calories for that banana means if I have 45 calories left after meals AND the banana I can have a Jaffa cake!

Usually I would class the banana .. or any fruit... As using up calories on things I don't get any pleasure eating so would rather skip the banana and just have three Jaffa cakes instead! Much more satisfying!

However my new healthier me had an inclination for a banana! Which is RARE for me to want healthy stuff! So I didn't want to pass up on it! But neither did I want to go over my calorie allowance.

I'm going with the 100g equals 100 calories principle. That seems best. And the banana in question was, without peel 89g/calories.

And surprisingly tasty it was too! 😁😁😁
