Hi Applessice it's so hard not to eat when you feel hungry all the time. I have been trying a few things to control my appetite. Maybe one of these might help you. If I feel hungry I have a drink and then distract myself from food. If after 20mins I still feel hungry I have some fruit. I also tell myself it's ok to feel hungry and I don't need to eat until my next meal.

I have also kept a notebook at hand so that before eating I try and write down how I am feeling and is food the answer at that time. If not I find something to focus on to take my mind off it.

My other tip is to have a good breakfast. This sets me up for the day and I feel less hungry during the day. So I will have 40g shreddies with some stewed Apple or a banana and a piece of toast with marmalade. Keeps me full for ages.

Anyway, enough from me. Hope you can find a way forward for you. Have a good week.

Hi, shopteddy, I hope you'll see the reply from Concerned, further down this thread. It may help you moving forward. I, for one, had to do a lot of learning and thinking about what "healthy eating" really means :)

You are right. It certainly take s more than a week. You can learn daily that is for sure.

Hi!

Thanks for your message. You know I am going to read this first thing in the morning. To start my day. I find it hard to to retrain.

I love your message and I have a notebook and pen for tomorrow.

You gave me a sigh of relief and a smile. Thanks so much. XXX

Hi Applespice,

Shopteddyhas given great advice. Before reaching for the food, I try to reflect whether I want it more than getting healthy and reaching my goal. Am I really hungry? Am I being greedy like the Mr Man book? Am I just filling an emotional void that has nothing to do with hunger? After an argument with my children about yes it’s now bedtime or yes it’s time to switch screens off, I cannot seem to stop reaching for food to comfort myself. This has got nothing to do with hunger. I’m not doing any complicated fasting so it is certainly not hunger. After eating it I don’t feel less stressed and it’s a habit I want to break.

Cheers,

Sarah

Great advice already given it helps me to use my fitness pal aswell as this keeps track of what I’ve eaten then it makes me think twice about what I do eat or encourages me to do some exercise to earn extra calories for something that I want xx

I cannot believe the great advice. I feel so much better.

My gym is opening in mid March. They were doing renovations.

Keep eating but make sure it is low calorie food like celery, carrot sticks, cucumber, grapefruit, spinach leaf salad, tomatoes, peppers etc. Reduce white carbs like white bread, pasta and potatoes and select wholemeal versions or vegetables. Cut out cakes, crisps, chocolates, biscuits, alcohol and any processed food incorporating sugar or trans fats. Reduce red meat and replace with fish or chicken. Eat smaller portions. Drink green tea in place of normal tea. This is working for me.

If I get the munchies- which I admit I am not always successful in resisting these are the things that I find works most of the times:

Don't have unhealthy snacks in the house- for me crisps are my kryptonite- no control!

Drink a couple of glasses in 30mins, just in case I am dehydrated and my brain is confusing that with hunger

Distract myself by doing something else that occupies my mind and/or hands- puzzles, reading or coming here or doing stuff on the internet.

Think of reasons why I shouldn't give in

It is difficult and as I said sometimes I still give in but at least I do fight it and more often than not I successfully resist.

Mine is sugar. And the side effects.

But taste is good.

I bought a cold water bottle. I can grab it.

It is a start for one day at a time.

Thanks so much for your message. I appreciate it.

Hi Applespice, love your name, all you can do is keep trying to eat the good food. I lost weight by eating chicken and ham and eggs. I have never had to cook for myself, my husband used to do most of it. As I want no butter or oil or fat I cook my own. Good luck to you keep on trying and you will be successful soon.
