I think I’m going for that as night times are my worst, I’m not really a breakfast person so should suit me but finding I’m eating so much rubbish lately and the more I tell my self off the more I eat, I feel really determined today and just prepared lots of veg for tea with turkey and pot , if I could just stick to the 3 meals I know I would be back to normal but I do live my food

Hi I know what you mean, im not a breakfast person either so it suits me and is not too bad once you get into it! Well youre certainly off to a good start with your veg and turkey, sounds nice ! I love my food too, I wish there was more of it I didnt like lol

Hi Fra-90 , good to see you here.

I found that planning everything beforehand and recording it in the Daily Diary really helped me. I too love my food and was a snacker, if you had asked me to cut down to 3 meals a day off the bat I wouldn't have thought I could do it.

What I did in the beginning was consciously schedule my snacks into my day, and count them into my day's calories. Then I tried to make them healthier than crisps/chocolate/biscuits. I would have (say) a banana or a bag of popcorn for 100 cals. As time wore on I tested doing without a snack in the morning, because that way I could have a bigger breakfast or a bigger lunch. It worked fine. Nothing bad happened. And so on.

But the Daily Diary has been a godsend in this. I am a maintainer now and I am still using it because it helps me keep myself on track.

Good luck!

Im thinking of trying IF as i never ised to eat breakfast and although ive implemented it recently its not natural

For me! I was thinking along 16:8 but 8pm - 12noon as sometimes work until 7pm !

Ah brilliant, well I do 11am till 7pm as that works for me but everything ive read about it says you can adapt it to suit your own lifestyle ? Apparantly its supposed to have real health benefits for cancer and diabetes etc but im thinking of it as another weight loss tool (we cant have too many) but it does make sense to me when you think about it our ancestors had to go foraging and hunting before they could sit down to breakfast ?? Who knows ??

Yes ive been looking at the diet doctor site and they have short videos on there regarding If, LCHF, etc

Was talking to someone over christmas about the fact that it waswas coca cola that gave santa claus his red outfit (thier corporate colour) and commercialised him to what we recognise today (the power of advertising) and he said do you know who instigated breakfast and I thought he was going to say danepak(bacon) but he said kellogs! Obviously dont know how much truth is in that but it certainly made me think ???

Misslovely profile image
Misslovely in reply to Lytham

It was the Kellog brothers and funnily enough just the night before last inwatched a documentary anout it and how they are the first convenience foods !

If just watched something I recorded the other night called "why are we so fat" or something, that was really interesting as well, they were talking about inventing an injection that has the same effect as a bypass ?

Misslovely in reply to Lytham

Really? 😱

Im not sure id want to have that as it treats the symptoms rather than cause! Quick fixes arent the answer in the long run, a healthy lifestyle is the best way!

Yeah youre right but its just in the trial stages at the moment and wont bebe available for years yet and ill be down to my target weight by then anyway !! Lol

An 08:00 to 12:00 eating window is 20/24 IF - I fast 20/24 14:00 to 10:00, and it has become my daily routine - and it works!

Eating plenty of good food at mealtimes (including fat) helps you resist snacking.

Hey Fra-90 nice to meet you!

Don't be hard on yourself about your bad eating habits. The best advice I can give you is to accept now that it's going to take time to replace each bad habit with a good one and get your head completely around it all. Don't think you're a failure if you fail (even if you fail 50 times). I have failed 150 times but continually get back to it and give it another whack and if you do the same I promise you'll get the better of the numbers.

I would suggest picking one or 2 habits that you know are really damaging your health and choose to tackle them for 14 days and then review. For example eating /grazing late at night..that is one of my poor habits and it wrecks good choices I've made all day 😫 so it's a case of imposing a new rule and breaking in a new habit. Kitchen closed at 8pm for eg. 14 days of that will break the back of the old habit. Other egs might be a poor breakfast - so you would make a rule that breakfast is 2 boiled eggs with spinach and coffee every single day for eg. Or sugar. A lot of people who struggle with their food will find its actually probably caused by the constant roller-coaster of sugar and insulin caused by eating a high carb diet. Deciding on no processed carbs to begin with and no sugar for 14 days could be an absolute game changer.

What do you think? Are there one or 2 habits you could start with?

It shouldn't feel like trying to climb everest if it does you're taking on too much. It should feel like a gentle incline, challenging but not unpleasant. And when you look back at the path behind you in a few months you'll realise how far you've come and that you're past base camp already!!!!

Hello and welcome Fra-90

The best advice I can give is have enough to eat. If you are following the NHS 12 Week plan then the 1400/1900 calorie target suggested is a just generic amount, please check your own personal calorie target using the BMI checker, it’s often higher than you think. We always advise starting towards the top of the range, being hungry is the biggest cause of weight loss failure.

I also eat twice a day which means I can have decent sized meals. I find since I re-introduced some good healthy natural fats back into my diet (after years of trying to eat low-fat) I don’t get anything like as hungry and can easily do this, and not snack in between.

I keep flexible and eat more some days than others but try to eat about 1pm and 7pm 😊 perhaps later at weekends . . . Having more fat in my meals means I can easily go 5/6 hours in between
