Hello Alikea.

First of all, Welcome and know that you are not alone. Many of us joined up with eating habits that we had to adjust one way or another, in order to achieve our goals.

Let's start by suggesting the obvious: this is not comfort eating you're doing but Discomfort Eating, since the results are making your miserable, so please consider doing the following starting NOW:

Start by monitoring what you eat by writing EVERYTHING down in a small notebook which you can carry round with you. That includes drinks because some are very sugary.

Then, if you can bear to do so, write down exactly why you think you need comfort through food. Please remember that this is a totally private exercise; you doing it to externalise what you are thinking and feeling. This often helps us to sort out what is actually happening in our lives.

If you feel you need to talk to your doctor about how you feel, please don't hesitate; depression is something we all need help with from time to time.

Having said that, the person who can help you most is yourself. When you have analysed your own eating habits then look at making one or two changes. DON'T try to address it all at once, but go for things you feel you can tackle one by one, over a period of time. For instance, are you eating between meals? In fact, are you eating regularly at set meal times, which a good thing, if it can be achieved. Doing this can make a Big Difference to your digestion and to your sense of ordering and controlling your relationship with food.

Do look at all the help suggested by the Administrators, which can be of enormous help to you.

Good luck and read around the experiences of other here; you should find their stories very encouraging.

It's not the easiest time of the year, but you've taken the first step and have a jump on those that wait until January. Mindfulness and damage limitation is the name of the game :)

We're all in this together :)
