Diet side effects help

Hey everyone, i was wanting to know if any of you felt really ill at the beginning of your weight loss, today is my first full day with diet and exercise combined ( I just ate healthy for the first 3 weeks and now I am adding in exercise) since my half hour workout this morning I feel sick, dizzy, i have been shaking a bit and when I was walking earlier I felt like I could fall down. I'm not fad dieting or taking any diet supplements. It's just making healthier choices and cutting out sugar and eating more fruit and veg. In 26 and in alright health apart from my weight. I was 16.6 stone and down to 14.5 stone. Non drinker but I do smoke but I have cut down and I'm on the path to quitting. Thank you

Hello Blackno1 - I hope your feeling a little bit better now.

Do you think you could be dehydrated? You may of course just tried to do too much exercise if our body is not used to it. I think we sometimes throw our selves into these things with too much vigour. Best to build up slowly - brisk walking is great exercise.

Are you calorie counting? If so how many calories are you eating, you may not be having enough - another thing that most of us do at the beginning - it is important to keep the calories up. Check your own personal calorie allowance on the NHS BMI calculator and make sure you have up towards the top end. Yes you really can eat that much and loose weight. You have done extremely well to loose 2 stone, I am just a little concerned that if you are not eating enough you will have no where to go as more weight drops off and you have to lower them. This is when it all falls apart and becomes unsustainable. Have a read of these articles -

Can you describe a typical meal? Are you eating enough to fuel your exercise? Do you feel hungry? Did you do anything in particular to resolve these symptoms (eat? lie down?).

Also, have you had your blood pressure checked recently?

At a guess I'd say you're going mildly hypoglycemic; if you've spent a lifetime eating very-high-carbohydrate meals, your body will not be very good at regulating blood sugar (which is essentially why people get fat in the first place). It might work out better if you fix your eating patterns first and wait a while before jumping into hard exercise.

Thank you, yes I think your both right, i had a cup of tea and a Apple and feel much better now. I have had a life time of not eating all day and then having a big meal at tea time and living on coca cola so I think my body is a bit shocked. I will book into the doctors just incase. Thank you

You say you "just ate healthy for 3 week". It's possible it wasn't as healthy as you think. You're welcome to share your meal plans on the Daily Diary and get some helpful comments there. Here's a link to today's healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

You're young. Don't get into a lifetime of yoyo dieting. Eat well and eat enough

Hi, Blackno1 , Welcome

Like they said - probably dehydration and/or hypoglycaemia.

It can take a while to get your body to use fat reserves rather than just demanding more food.

Your weekly weight loss is a good indication of if you are eating enough... How much have you been losing?

"They" might tell you that weight loss is 80% eating less and 20% exercise.

I attended a talk by a man who burnt 7,000 calories a day for 50 days, and lost 4½ Stone. (He walked to the South Pole!)

(In my experience) two hours exercise a day can burn an extra pound of fat a week.

If you are getting hypoglycaemia, I would recommend that, initially at least, you should try to limit your weight loss to one pound a week. I tend to get hypoglycaemia if I lose more than a pound a week, and I have been losing weight for six months.

Hi Blackno1 , I think you got very good advice from other members but this is my story when I started 🙂

Yes I too got sick at the beginning of my weight loss journey. Continuous extreme low calories per day (300-500) and exhaustion were the closest reasons. Dizziness, coldness, shaking specially shaky fingers and muscle pains/ twitchs, throwing up, fainting and lowered heart rate were in my lists if you have any of them. I obviously lost weight drastically. But after I shared my thoughts in this forum I'm now going on moderate. I share my meal plans everyday so I can see if I'm taking enough food or over do it 🙂

Now, there are days I go for strict diets but being in moderate is the most reliable method.
