Chocolate is everywhere, isn't it? BerlinBetty just did an epic rant on precisely that subject.

If you're trying to lose weight "again", make sure you don't use the same method you used the first time! It seems the main stumbling block for most people is thinking past the weight-loss phase: how are you going to maintain your healthy weight?

My suggestion would be to start learning how to maintain properly. This isn't difficult: it basically means eating proper food and just not buying things that make you fat - breakfast cereals, rice, pasta, noodles, white bread, biscuits, chips, crisps, and all those other cheap "convenience" foods that just cause more trouble than they're worth. Same with "low fat" snacks, spreads, and condiments that look virtuous but in reality are just chemical jiggery-pokery that shouldn't be ingested by anyone, ever. Take the time to cook real meals with real ingredients; once you've got into the new habits, you'll find it simple and painless to transition (temporarily) into a full-blown weight loss phase; more importantly, you'll be able to transition out of it (permanently) into a diet that's guaranteed to not make you fat again.

If you're seriously overweight, I wouldn't attempt to do too much exercise yet. Just turning off the TV and going for a walk will give you 70% of the benefits. Focus on getting your diet right first, and as the weight drops off you'll probably feel more inclined to exercise.

Excellent post! I now look at everything I put in my grocery trolly to see what nutritional content is there. I love chocolate and include a few squares most days (I actually count and log every square and include it in my calorie allowance).

My husband bought me a Fitbit last Christmas but it wasn't until I visited their site and started filling in the food and exercise log that the weight started dropping regularly.
