Hi everyone,

Newbie here. Myself and my husband really need to get in shape. We have tried fad diets etc but the weight just piles back on. We have a daughter of 14 months, after a very traumatic pregnancy and labour i am still having problems and one of them is shifting this weight. I have been diagnosed with hemiplegic migraines and occipital neuralgia, which makes life difficult and my husband has an auto immune disease that prevents him moving around with ease. We are hoping that this weight loss plan works for us and we are much fitter and healthier for our baby girl.

Wish us luck!

Hello Anna and welcome to our friendly forum,

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter, all be it 14 months ago. If she is anything like my 14 month old Grandson, I expect she keeps you both very busy.

It sounds as though you have had a rough time and the migraines/headaches must be very hard to deal with. Your husband will be pleased to know that 80% of weight loss is down to what we eat, not the amount of exercise we can do.

You have discovered for yourselves that fad diets don't work - the best way to loose weight is to stop thinking 'diet', start thinking sustainable healthy eating plan that you will be able to stick to for life. It is a far more enjoyable way of loosing weight :)

You both have a very good reason to want to be fitter and I hope that you will find the forum a helpful place. The best advice I can give you is to come here daily if you can and at least read through the posts. Joining in with the daily chat and becoming part of our 'forum family' will mean that you gain lots of support and we hope give it to :)

Hi AnnaH1986x

Welcome to this wonderful and supportive forum.

I'm sure that with the motivation of setting a good example and being able to play and keep up with your little girl you will. You will both move forwards and the scales downwards..

Hi Anna,

The good news is that you and your husband are in this together! One of the reasons that I’m having an easier time losing weight at the moment is because my husband agreed at the start to accept the changes to our menus, so we are eating the same meals (but in our case as he doesn’t need to lose weight, he can have extras if he wants them).

The second revelation to me that will also interest you as you both have health problems, is as Lucigret says, successful weight loss doesn’t have to be tied in to extra physical activity. There are experts out there that say “eat less, exercise more” isn’t working for some people. Try reading up about eating fewer carbs and more healthy fats as a non-fad diet, and the effect on insulin resistance. You may find that it is an alternative way of thinking about food that suits you. Good luck!
