Hi Steve, (Rad10ham1954),

Don’t know whether that’s your year of birth but I am of similar vintage. My consultant won’t take me on waiting list for hernia op until I reduce down to BMI of 30, ie overweight for my age and height rather than obese. I started in July and I think by weigh in tomorrow, I might be almost there.

The main help I have received from this website is to rethink my approach to healthy eating, and a lot of the info and videos I’ve been watching have actually been about to he causes of type 2 diabetes and how to reverse it, insulin resistance as a hormonal problem created by modern day food options. I can honestly say it’s been a revelation, I’m losing weight and not feeling hungry or craving snacks and sweet things.

At the risk of repeating myself again, google the Skinny on Obesity videos, and I’m sure the administrators on this website site will point you to other helpful articles you can find here as well.

This is your first step on the road, you’re on your way! Good luck, and if you need support, keep coming back here.

Hello Steve and a very warm welcome to the Weight Loss Forum 😊

First of all, please take a look at the Welcome Newbie Post for advice about how the forum works and all the things we have on offer. healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Having enough to eat is vital, if you are following the NHS 12 Week plan then the calorie target suggested is a just generic amount, so check your calorie target on the BMI checker, it’s often higher than you think. Food quality is also important, fat is no longer seen as the bad guy. Some good healthy fat in the diet is essential for balanced nutrition and excellent for controlling hunger.

Try to come onto the forum regularly, daily if you can, reading posts and replying to others. Being part of a community is proven to help weight loss. Why not join our daily chat thread ‘What’s Happening Today? And tell us all a little about your day.

Lastly, and most importantly, for your own privacy and safety online we suggest that you lock your posts by selecting ‘followers in my community’ when you write a new post. Please read our security post here. healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Best wishes and have a great first week

Indigo 😊

Hi, you can do it ! my son in law was overweight for years and became diabetic. To be honest we almost gave up on him. However, after only one year he has really improved his health, lost weight and begun to believe in himself. When he was threatened with redundancy recently his attitude was amazing, he wasn't frightened by the prospect and fortunately was retained. I have no doubt that his eating healthily for the very first time in his life is what changed everything. He eats what he fancies when he fancies, he no longer comfort eats, that was key for him.
