A little boost needed...

Hey everyone, I’m new on here and have taken my first step to finally lose weight. For many years I’ve gone in & out of dieting. I lost over 2.5 stone a few years back following slimming world however that’s now back on... with an added stone. I feel uncomfortable in clothes and overall I know my health is at risk. I have PCOS which means I battle from some other ugly symptoms too so overall I’ve lost my confidence completely and avoid going on nights out with friends so that I can avoid the dreaded ‘getting ready’ process. I’ve decided this time to get online & join some forums to try and help boost me along my journey & hopefully get lots of great ideas & tips. Looking forward to hearing from many of you & id love to hear from you regarding any success stories or ways you overcome the barrier when you fall out of motivation. Have a lovely evening xx

Hi, Kathryn1x , Welcome.

You are in the right place...

One of the Admins will give you specific advice and relevant links soon.

I do not know what PCOS is, but most or many of us her have medical and other problems (I was thinking I was not one of them, but I have been to hospital and the doctors about twice a week for a long time, for about four different conditions, most of them potentially fatal).

My first goal was to be able to get into my smart clothes for my sister's 75th birthday party... my next goal is to be overweight rather than obese by Christmas, and them BMI 28 before my birthday.

Hello and a very warm welcome 😊

First of all, please take a look at the Welcome Newbie Post here healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... for advice about how the forum works and all the things we have on offer.

I really feel for you Kathryn, you have a lot on your plate. Maintaining motivation is tough, so please make sure you have enough to eat. If you are following the NHS 12 Week plan then the 1400 calorie target suggested is a just generic amount, so check your calorie target on the BMI checker.

What you eat is also important, especially with PCOS. This condition is exacerbated by disruption to hormones ( including hunger and appetite hormones) often caused by a carbohydrate heavy diet, such as that promoted by Slimming World. What I’m saying is, it is no surprise you have regained the weight, and are feeling rubbish. Have a look at this for more details about a lower carb way of eating healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... Fats are no longer the enemy, and are excellent for satiety as well as balanced nutrition 😊

Also try to come onto the forum regularly, daily if you can, reading posts and replying to others. Being part of a community is proven to help weight loss. Why not join our daily chat thread ‘What’s Happening Today? And tell us all a little about your day. healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Best wishes and have a great first week

Indigo 😊

Morning Kathryn1x, well you are here and that's a great start...and most of us have done the same dieting club yo yo in the past....and regained!

The advice from IndigoBlue is spot on....the daily threads really help to keep you motivated....and the recipes in the topics give some ideas when you feel stumped about what to eat. Plus you can look at this any time of the day......you are not alone. Good luck with your choices.

Hello to you. Well done for recognising that doing a diet leads to the ultimate not doing the diet process. I am away for a few days and have eaten more or less what I have fancied but am looking forward to getting back to my planned eating when I return. I don't feel I have ruined everything which is what I would have felt like .....simply delayed my loss.

It is about finding what works for you I do calories as it is easy and bans no foods. It is a life plan and when it gets tough the people here are amazing. Good luck.

It’s hard!

Yet it’s easy......don’t do a diet plan...

I have found they don’t work. This site is good, honest!

Choose your calorie limit ( it’s in the Bmi checker)

Then eat healthily....you will feel immediately better, you see.....

Loads of ideas on the site

Clear the cupboards of rubbish....New broom and all that!

welcome Kathryn and you are in the right place! you will find the best advice and motivation and friends. I love this place. I am back after a couple of months feeling sorry for myself. I had ankle surgery and cannot walk, but I can sure eat! I have eaten all the junk food I could find and gained at least 25 pounds which I could hardly stand as I need to lose at least 100 to start with. I recommend reading posts, writing posts and following the eating plan. it is a new way of living and it works. hang out with us! chin up and good luck!
