Hi,

So I have just joined this site and I have downloaded the 12 week plan, starting this today.

I have been your classic yo-yo from high school age, and now mid 30's, and tried everything plan under the sun. I did lose a good few stone on SW but then lost hope, got in a pickle, had a mental battle over 'syns', portion control and just forgot how to eat properly, gained weight..you know how it goes.

I am wanting to learn about portion control again, not have a breakdown over 'treats', re-learning not to feel guilty over certain foods/drinks and learn how to control my emotional eating.

I am a mum of one, partner to one who loves his foods and always convinces me to opt for a 'quick' pizza tea rather my planned cooked meal. Unfortunately I give in very easily, I am an emotional eater and I am desperate to regain the the control of my eating habits. I am in my 2nd year of a 4 year degree. I have around 100 lbs to lose, but this I am breaking down into more manageable chucks, taking each day as it comes, week by week.

Anyway, this is enough about me for now.

Hi AutumnLeaves and welcome to our friendly forum :)

It sounds to me as though you have given this a lot of thought. The 12 week plan is a great way of getting portion sizes right and getting rid of the idea of 'syns'. The only thing I would say though, is not to take any notice of the low fat diet food part of it. A huge amount of research has been done - unfortunately the NHS aren't keeping up - that proves that eating healthy full fat yoghurt, butter, olive oil, nuts in moderation, fattier cuts of meat.......this list goes on, is far more beneficial. The diet foods are full of sugar that will spike your insulin and make you feel hungry. Eating healthy fats is satiating and keeps you full for longer :)

Also, please use the NHS BMI calculator to calculate your own personal calorie range - start towards the top end so you have room to drop them as you loose weight.

Thank you for your welcome.

I went to see my nurse today and she mentioned the NHS 12 week plan, so once I searched for that, I came across this site.

Noted about the 'diet' foods. This is something I want to get away from as well and turn to eating healthier fats.

Thank you for your reply. It is encouraging to hear that your Nurse knows about the 12 week plan, so many are unaware of it.

I am so pleased that you are happy to leave the 'diet' food behind. We don't benefit from them, only the manufacturers :)

Welcome to the forum, you've already had good advice and I know that there will be a lot more advice from admin and other forum members, one of the best bit of advice I got three years ago was myfitnesspal and smaller portions and I still use both today, good luck on your journey
