Tiredness... when you just want to eat EVERYTHING

Hey all. I've had a struggle today as it was a very tiring week at work and our 1yr old is still waking at night. Today we had a load of friends over and by the time they'd left (midday) I was exhausted and ravenous. I find I'm always hungriest and craving sugary things when I'm tired. Does anyone have tips on how to survive days like this? I think I've drunk 400 cups of tea, and eaten 900 carrot sticks to try and stop myself eating a biscuit! AAARGGH!

Hi, supermarmite

I think the answer is kidology ¿or is it psychology?

I can kid my self that I am too bored and lazy to get myself any food, so I go to bed (slightly) hungry.

Just make sure you eat all the meals you're supposed to and fill them with foods that will satiate.

If you'd had a cup of coffee with double cream and a hunk of cheese, rather than tea and carrot sticks, you would have forgotten about the biscuit, because you'd have been full :)

Yes, I agree with this. If I’m rushing around I have a coffee with milk and cream and a handful of almonds, then I can focus enough to prepare a decent meal 😊

But well done for realising that the sweet cravings are caused by tiredness. 👏👏👏

Thanks guys. Yes I've been eating egg... ham... spinach... good stuff all day. I'm on low carb high fat yet today has been a struggle hunger-wise. The carrot sticks were just to fight the urge to eat something worse. Hopefully tomorrow will be easier.

Speaking from experience supermarmite - if you’re feeling hungry then you aren’t eating enough fat. You don’t need to gnaw on carrot sticks to keep the hunger at bay 😊 I would try to eat something high fat right before you leave the house on en route, then ensure that you’re eating enough fat in your lunch. If you notice there are periods during the day when the hunger is worst then I would reevaluate the meal before that. With LCHF there is no need to fight the urge to eat something worse - just eat something filling. There is a forum for LCHF that I’m sure someone more awake than me can post a link to - it sounds like it’s worth popping over there and asking for some advice on what you’re eating.

Just to be totally clear - LCHF is totally working for me and I don't feel hungry between meals on other days. I just was really tired yesterday! I had a big week and it was all a bit much. So it was about how to cope with days like that when, despite eating well and enough etc, you still want to stuff your face with crap.

When you are exhausted, a treat is sometimes needed. I usually have a mug of hot chocolate, or a mini ice cream on a stick, which won’t wreck the day’s calories. The difficulty is stopping a little treat from turning into a big one...and then a binge! That has happened to me many a time, especially in my younger (and more hormonal) days.

If the worst happens and you break your diet....it is not the end of the world. Just get back into your healthy eating as soon as you are able, and don’t let the enjoyment of your little one be ruined by worrying about the numbers on the scales. You will soon be running around after those little legs, swimming, cycling, walking up hills etc.!

Plan to have a good sleep at the weekend if you can...book a friend or relative to have the baby for the morning, so you can crash out for a few hours.
