Calories 2

I posted the other day about calories. My BMI calculator shows between 1392 - 1790 cals per day. The 1790 seems high to me. But posts suggest starting here. I guess ad I've not been tracking or watching anything of late my heads screwed as to where to start. Last time I started at the lower end but if i start to low I may become disillusioned quickly. Help...has anyone else had this dilemma?

We always advise starting at the upper end, Scotslass, the aim being to eat as much as you can, while still losing weight. This means that as you reduce in size, you have somewhere to go with your calories. I don't know if you've seen this before? healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

moreless thanks for the post and link. I think I need a change of mindset. Less doesn't mean more in this case. 😀 🥕🌽🥦🍏🍌.

You're doing great in restarting when so many people don't plus you're also looking at how you may change things. Many people get stuck in a rut and fail by doing the same things time after time. You can do this Scotslass.

Worst case scenario... you eat more and over the next two or three weeks you put on a bit of weight and then you reduce the calories a bit until you find what works best for you. Or... it works and you've got to eat more at the same time.

You don't lose out either way.

I was just the same Scotslass, couldn’t believe I would lose weight eating so much!! I have also reintroduced some fat into my diet as well, and am really enjoying the taste and flavour. Thank goodness the days of boring and dull diet food are gone! 😊

@IndigoBlue61 that's great. It's good to hear a success story 😀

Since I've gone back to correctly managing my cals I have increased my cream intake quite substantially. Mostly with stewed fruit with sugar taking a back seat.

It's hard to say whether it's my new verve to do well, the lack of sugar creating additional cravings, cream be satiating or a mixture of the lot but I'm having far fewer cravings and currently I'm able to manage the ones that I do.

Tiggerr that's great. I guess it's trial and error to get what you need to stave off the hunger and get sufficient calories 😀

You may or may not believe the junk I've eaten this year and the quantity of it as well. The only truly amazing thing is that I only put on 6kg.

I'm fairly certain that allowing pastry and sugar in any form into my diet is the trigger that just sends my mind into 'zombie mode'. I can watch myself finish a bowl of something and then it's like I'm watching myself from the outside as I walk into the kitchen and rummage out the next sugary madness. I even have an internal conversation that says 'what are you doing, you know you shouldn't do it'. But I don't listen.

These sugar attacks are more than just a little scary, so now it's minimise, minimise, minimise.

Tiggerr we can do it. I think I'm going to start with 1700 cals. I'm going in holiday in a few weeks and I think this will give me some breathing space while still sticking to it.

Good for you and best of luck!

You've got that holiday coming up and hopefully the 1700 works for you but at the same time, do enjoy your holiday... if you end up feeling miserable you may be just as likely to say beep-it to this weight loss malarkey.

Maybe wait until you're settled in a way that works for you then maybe think about how you can work holidays in.

@Tiggerr I hoping a few weeks in will have created some good habits.

Creating good habits is so worthwhile. Apparently it takes around three weeks 😊

I'm about 80 weeks in and still battling with creating good habits :) but then we're all different and I may have a few more years on you of doing it wrong in the first place.

I think I am at the moment thanks Indigo (hope that doesn't sound vain) and just wondering where the next hurdle is coming from and how to spot it when it does. Just call me Pessimism personified :)

I’m the same with sugar, it just sets off some kind of inner monster, I can go weeks without so have found it best to minimise. It’s amazing how satisfying a bowl of strawberries with double cream can be 😊
