Hello and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum

First of all, to help you find your way around, and enjoy all the things we have on offer, please read the Welcome Newbies Post here healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Take your time to read it carefully as it has lots of information.

The best advice I can give is to eat enough. If you are following the NHS 12 Week plan then the 1400 calorie target suggested is a just generic amount, please check your own personal calorie target using the BMI checker, it’s often higher than you think. We always advise starting towards the top of the range, being hungry is the single biggest cause of weight loss failure.

I also highly recomend coming onto the forum regularly, daily if you can, reading posts and replying to others. Being part of a community is proven to help weight loss. Why not join our daily chat thread ‘What’s Happening Today?’

For your own privacy and safety online we suggest that you lock your posts by selecting ‘followers in my community’ when you write a new post. Please read our security post here. healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Out of interest, can I ask how you found us?

Best wishes for your weight loss journey

Indigo 😊

Welcome to this wonderful forum, C52xyz 😊 it's a great place for support and encouragement.

I would say, planning is key, if you work long days, so that you already know what you are going to eat when you get in from work, & it is in the fridge /freezer ready to pop in the oven or heat in the microwave, so you're not reaching for the easiest option, which is probably not the healthiest, or grabbing a takeaway too often 😊

As for having a family to feed, you don't need to prepare different meals, just adjust your portion size is often all that's needed, maybe adding more veg or salad to bulk out your meal. If you check your own bmi, it will give you a range, which is probably more than you would expect, but start towards the top end, & it really does work 😊

There is a weigh in every day of the week, so join whichever day is best for you & you will get to know a group of people who will become virtual friends, & mutual support is where it definitely helps you succeed 😊

Look forward to seeing you around, good luck 😊

Hi C52xyz , I see other posters have given you some brilliant advice which I would totally echo.

A couple more thoughts about what has been working for me:

I don't know what kind of job you have, but I have found it helpful in my office-based job to bring all my food in with me. I plan it all the night before. I sometimes buy something from the supermarket, but only if it's already calorie-counted.

I cook the same healthy meal for everyone, but maybe give the family more carbs in theirs (potatoes/rice/bread) - I will have a reduced portion of carbs. I do find it quite hard to leave most of my cals til the evening meal, but family mealtime is important to us so I am going with it.

My other half does most of the shopping and fortunately he tends to buy biscuits that I don't like v much, so it's no real hardship to ignore the biscuit shelf.

I can't stress enough how helpful I have found it to pre-plan what I am going to eat and then stick to it. It has really worked for me. The mutual support on this forum is phenomenal.

Good luck - onwards and downwards!

Use a calorie counter app like my fitness pal. Drink plenty of water.

Healthy slow cooker meals and batch cooking are helpful when you’re busy.

I like to have healthy curries, chilli, vegetables, meatballs, tomato & basil sauce as well as soup stocked up in our freezer. Making some healthy snacks helps too. I’ve recently been using healthy mummy snack recipes. X
