Young at Heart

I recently moved to live in Cyprus. My first Wife sadly died. I am now Married to a lovely Lady 10 Years younger than me.

I want to lose weight for better health and to be around for my Wife. I fully realise that by losing weight it will help my heart and Joints etc. I recently had a Cataract removed and the results are amazing. I sincerely hope to achieve the same sort of elation by losing weight.

I owe it to My Wife and our assorted kids and Grandchildren and also myself

I am more motivated than some old Jamaican keep fit fanatic called Mr Motivator.

I want to live. I HAVE just renewed my car and home Insurance for 1 Year so that is the least amount of time I can live for. I was never one to waste money. Or should that have been Waist Money.

I used to be really for until I suffered a back Injury. After that my running regime went out of the windows.

Mind you I didn't stop playing squash until about 6 Years ago. I will go swimming on a regular basis once I get a hone with a pool. BMI figures are stupid. They advise I go down to twelve and a half stone. I was more than that when extremely fit running around the Brecon Beacons. Now it is Old Age and Worn out Joints. I still walk but now the Athritus in my Ankle hurts like hell. I don't like taking over the counter Medicines

I was recently told about Cannabis Oil which I do use but sparingly.

Not only will I survive but I will succeed.

I am determined to lose weight and feel better as a result.

What you need next is to renew your 10 year passport :)

Forget the end point for now, just work from where you are, improving things and shedding pounds one at a time.

Weight loss really does come down to what we eat, much more than exercise, tho' that has so many other benefits. There must be some great fresh produce where you are - Mediterranean diet on your doorstep.

This might help you make sense of why it really does get harder to lose weight as we get older healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

THE AVERAGE Cypriot eats a lot of Fish but also drinks like one.

Ah, but you're not the average anything, are you? :)

Do have a read of the link I've sent you, it could give you some pointers

If I wasn't sure I could be forgiven for thinking that you knew me personally?

I did recently renew my passport and had to also renew my driving licence. Not that it appears to matter here since I imagine most people here got their driving licences after a session on Chessington Zoo Dodgem Cars, such is the standard of driving.

Mind you it does keep one mentally alert at all times.

The diet here varies. The usual holiday makers choices of storage to the ultra sensible for those concerned. Mind you the danger here is the booze. But then again if you watch and mimick the Greek habits it is not a problem.

Personally I have up sugar over 50 Years ago when I lived and worked in Norway and couldn't afford it. Likewise Milk in coffee, again I couldn't afford it at the time.

Now having sold my house in the UK but also bought a smaller one to provide a rental income I am, living the dream that many envy.

Cyprus is a wonderful Country and the Greek Cypriots are fantastic.

The trouble is so is the food.

I love to cook, not necessarily eat, but love seeing people enjoy the food that I cook.

But now it is all systems change, gone is the slow cooked bellybof pork with fennel. Cyprus potatoes in olive oil and lemon and oregano.

No now it is sensible food. (sigh)

I love cooking steak and cutting it up into thin slices and serving it up already mixed in the fresh salad.

So many different oils and salad dressings to choose from also.

I will lose weight. I will and I am determined to do so. I want to fully explore this beautiful Island and all of its charms, together with my wife.

Oh, don't give up that belly pork with fennel - my mouth is watering!! But you may need to go easy on the potatoes. And your steak and salad is perfect.

Seriously, you clearly enjoy food, fresh produce and cooking. Don't for one minute be thinking of 'diet food' and 'lo-cal' this and the other. You may need to look at portion size, and that where calorie counting can help, and hot just the alcohol but the snacks and nibbles that often accompany it.

Otherwise, think in terms of reducing carbohydrates, targeting the 'big ticket' items of bread, potatoes, rice and pasta, and instead increase your healthy fats. The link I sent you earlier will make sense of this for you.

You'll know how much of this is relevant to you and your choices, and I'm sure you'll work out a way to enjoy that fabulous food while also shedding some of the excess weight :)

I HAVE already lost over 1 Stone.

I AM NOT in anyway disheartened by apparently not losing weight all of a sudden.

I appear to have hit an impasse in my weight loss and am now hovering around the 105, 104 kilo mark.

But it will go and when it does it is staying off.

I CHECKED MY bloody pressure and pulse this morning, both are good. I know I don't have to worry about my cholesterol because they were CHECKED recently and good. Likewise about diabetes my friend is a diabetic and tested my blood for me and it is good.
