New to weight loss- what has worked for you to keep on track?

I’m starting my weight loss journey and realised that there aren’t many people living close by who are on the same track. I’ll be taking up running for the first time using couch to 5k and learning to adapt meals to healthier recipes. What do you do to boost your confidence when trying new things?

Hello and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum Eleorca 😊

First of all, to help you find your way around, and enjoy all the things we have on offer, please read the Welcome Newbies Post here healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Take your time to read it carefully as it has lots of information.

To boost my self confidence when trying new things I read absolutely everything there is on the subject, and this forum is an amazing resource. There are lots of older posts about eating, calories, exercise and other hints and tips. Maybe have a browse through the Pinned posts and Topics section?

(Details in the Welcome Newbies Post)

I also highly recomend coming onto the forum regularly, daily if you can, reading posts and replying to others. Being part of a community is proven to help weight loss. Why not join our daily chat thread ‘What’s Happening Today?’

For your own privacy and safety online we suggest that you to lock your posts by selecting ‘followers in my community’ when you write a new post. Please read our security post here. healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Out of interest, can I ask how you found us?

Best wishes for your weight loss journey

Indigo 😊

Hi Indigo

Thanks for the welcome and guidance, I came across HU via NHS CHOICES and think it will really help to be part of the online community. I’ll keep posts locked as suggested

Coming here every day, not to post (or not often) but to get involved in chats - learning and sharing the support that way - join a weekly weigh-in, use the Daily Diary, find new recipes. These are the things that have kept me on track when otherwise I'd have been doing this alone

There certainly is :) Good luck

Well done in starting to run. My biggest help has been the calorie counter on the nhs weight loss website. It has helped me understand that there are some things I can eat whereas previously I thought they were a no-no. Also I've found the way the website breaks down the calories for each meal very helpful, eg for me 280 for breakfast, 420 for lunch, 420 for dinner and 280 for extras. This has helped me keep things under control. Good luck.
