I'm joining slimming world this evening, however, I suffer from anxiety and depression and have started the process of negative self talk and I am very likely to find some way to avoid going.

Anyone else been like this? How do you get through it?

Yes I used to have anxiety really bad but I can control it better now. I use meditation videos on YouTube and then just feel the fear and do it anyway. Positive thinking sounds easy it's not always but visualise what you'll achieve by joining it'll be worth it. Good luck😊

Hi roadhog, I hope it goes well for you, whether you get to sw or not. Like others have said, we are here if you maybe preferred an online community, we're very friendly:)

You will find folk here from every situation, so the chances are they will know what you're going through. I have been lucky to have never had major anxiety issues but I've seen it in friends. Sending you a big thumbs up, you can do it. :)

I joined slimming world last week, I have found that it is a very non judgemental group to be part of. Go to the club today, give it a go if you don't like it, you don't have to go back but I think you may be surprised by how supportive they are, after all, all the participants are in the same boat as you. Good luck

If you can get to Slimming World, give it a go their plan works for a lot of people, you could do it in conjunction with joining this forum.

I think a lot depends on the make up and leader of the group you join. Some years ago I lost three stone through a very supportive SW group and leader. Then after a lapse (putting on most of the weight I had lost) I tried couple of unsuccessful rejoins. I don’t think my brain was in weight loss mode and I told myself I was OK with my weight and it wasn’t effecting my health (niether being true).

After talking to a very supportive GP about long term chronic pain and anxiety I decided that I needed to lose weight to try to improve my health and hopefully reduce pain.

I have found this online forum through the NHS site and members have been so friendly and motivational. With their help and using an app called MyFitnessPal for calorie counting I am gradually losing weight. I feel so much more positive that I will keep going. You can do it , whatever way/s you choose, and you will do it! Good luck.

Well I did it, I joined now I need to get my head around it all, I've committed to the 12wk plan aiming to lose a total of three stone but will be happy if one of those are gone in 12 weeks.

I too used to feel anxiety so I do understand where you are coming from. It's difficult but try hard to ignore the negative thoughts and replace with an "I can do this!" just think about how you will feel when you have achieved it, it will be fantastic to make some more friends on the same path and pick up all the new healthy eating ideas and recipes!

You definitely can do this! Try to have more faith in yourself to move forwards and let us know how you get on. Sugar2Minx's suggestions on You Tube meditation videos sound good - nothing to lose from giving those a try. I have faith in you and your ability to make these changes! With all best wishes. :-)
