Hello, I am 29 and been asked to lose 32kgs (currently 86kg). This is the heaviest I have ever been and really worried about the impact on my health and arthritis (in knees).

Therefore your support will be greatly appreciated.

Hello I also have bad knees which means it tricky to get high impact exercise in. I just walk at a fairly easy pace. Losing weight is another matter but you can do it. Lots of useful information on the new be link. Good luck try not to get too overwhelmed there's a huge learning curve.

Hi and welcome, misswills :)

Gosh you must be quite petite to have been asked to lose that much weight. Rest assured that losing the weight will make your knees a lot less painful and enable you to exercise more. That's what I found, anyway :)

To make navigating the forum easier, we've put all the information you'll need in a newbie pack and here's the link

You are being very sensible in deciding to take the load off your knees whilst still young...those knees have got to last you a few years yet! I had dreadful pain in my knees when 3 stone heavier and was climbing stairs one step at a time, and really struggling to climb out of a bath!

Now, I can run up the stairs, and getting out of a bath is no problem.

Once you have made that decision to do it, it is just a case of making a plan of action...get a calorie counting app, clear the kitchen of tempting goodies, take up a hobby like swimming or cycling to speed up the burning off of those calories, and log on here for regular encouragement!

Hi Misswills!! I'm also new and starting from about the same weight as you, with a similar weight loss goal in mind...and I've also got sore feet and knees... so I am really feeling a connection!! I'm sure you will have success following the excellent advice here and with the wonderful encouragement. I also thought of swimming. Take things steadily, don't be disappointed if you only see small and gradual steps in the right direction...they say that's best in the long term...and DO give yourself plenty of zero calorie treats and rewards along the way to keep it enjoyable! ;) Good luck! :o)

Thank you Whin,

Day 3 and struggling to cut the bad foods out but eating much better than before. I have a personal trainer who is doing knee rehab/ get back to fitness training. I used to Olympic weightlifting and crossfit before the arthritis got worse so very keen to get back to it (or at least some of it).

Sounds like you are going in the right direction ;) Wow impressive sporting achievements...am afraid I've never been sporty, but have a few bodybuilding pals! My knees/feet are due to the way my legs were made I think (!!) and I've had awful Plantar Fasciitis for about a year now...hoping weight loss will also help that. I've also got some orthotics to help with my wonkiness ;) Seems to be helping a bit. Hope you can soon get back to what you love!! :o)
