Daily Diary Saturday 19th May 2018

Dear Daily Diarists, hello and welcome if you're new here.

Please tell us all what you will be eating on Saturday, with calories if you're counting and exercise you've got planned.

My day tomorrow is rather simple, as I'm away on a city break to Bristol, which I'm really looking forward to.

So, it looks like this:

Brunch - hotel breakfast, so that'll keep me going all day - cooked breakfast and fruit - I'll allow 800 calories

Dinner - most likely a pub/italian restaurant somewhere. I'm going to go for fish and/or salad, and allow another 800 calories.

I have apples packed for snacks.

Exercise - walking miles around Bristol!

So, today's thought is one I have to keep reminding myself. I have recently been fairly absent from the forum, due to a combination of having my house rewired, and a huge amount of reasons for eating out. What I have learnt from the experience, is that without forward planning, I still have very little self control and eat way too much.

Initially I became quite upset, as it seemed that I'm never going to develop good eating habits. But then I always take myself back to the fact that it took me years and years to build my bad habits, it will take me just as long to rebuild better ones. So, it is a slow slow journey, and that's okay. I did notice that I generally choose healthier food now, and I have kept exercising right through the last couple of week, where as previously I would have given that up too.

I won't be around a huge amount tonight and tomorrow, so please chat amongst yourselves, and make sure you comment on at least one other person, ideally the one before you, but better still, have a good old chat with everyone!!

Wishing you all a wonderful Saturday.

Hello Salcheq and thank you for posting 😊. I hope the house renovations are going well, and that you have a lovely weekend

Well tomorrow is my birthday and I’m having my favourite meals

Breakfast is scrambled eggs on granary toast with smoked salmon, mushrooms and tomatoes

Dinner is roasted Mediterranean vegetable lasagne

And I’m having cake . . . And gin! Just the one before my dinner

I’m not counting calories but it doesn’t sound far wrong 😊

Onwards and downwards

Anna 😊

Hello Salcheq , hope you have a great time in Bristol.

How right you are about us taking years to develop habits, and how can we shed them in a short time? This forum is such a good source of wisdom and support when those habits won't shift :)

My plan for tomorrow, calories not yet counted but should be OK for my mid-range 1590

B: Pink grapefruit (50), courgette fritters

L: Avocado, prawn, salad and mayo - variation on prawn cocktail (cals unknown)

D: Spinach, smoked haddock and poached egg + strawberries and cream if my calorie count allows

I saw the courgette fritters in someone's post and to my shame I didn't make a note of who it was and it hasn't made it into recipes. I'm looking forward to trying them, all in the name of varying my veg :)

Mmm, courgettes, haven't had them in ages, I love them, but the family doesn't eat them. I used to grow a plant on my compost to just get a few fresh ones for myself! Love all your meals!

They were very nice but I ate too many! I'm going to post it in recipes

Well it looks like my fridge is on the brink (I've turned it up to 7 but it isn't getting any colder haha!) so will have to purchase a new one tomorrow and buy food daily until it arrives. My menu is:

Breakfast: Branflakes with milk and dried dates

Lunch: Mozzarella, mixed leaves, tomatoes, cucumber & celery salad

Dinner: Beef Lasagne with plenty of veggies in and a side of rocket/watercress!

I'm not counting calories but should be okay.

My taste buds are still tingling from watercress this evening.

You have a nice varied menu there :)

Hi Caroline62, hope you hae a lovely day, and enjoy your fish and chips dinner.

Well done for getting straight back onto plan Caroline 😊

Hello diaroodles!

I vent in the daily diary as well as plan meals.

Twice in the past two days I've eaten waaay too many chocolate and biscuits just because they were put in front of me. I can't beleive how calorie dense these things are.

The first time I arrived at a cafe having decided to order a hot chocolate only. More people arrived, we ordered dessert platters to share and I got in on it.

The second time, I was at a boring talk and nibbles were served after. They had the creamy wafers!!! I ate like half a bag...plus choc chip cookies. Also two lindor balls. I'm embarrassed by how greedy I am.

There's a paradox here. These foods are delicious but I also hate them. I always eat too much, feel ill then suffer through a sugar crash too. Blergh.

So is there anyone out there who has gone from being a cookie monster to just being able to decline dessert or have one or two? What was the journey like? How is it done?

Try to remember how bleurgh you feel and use this to remind yourself next time . . . I constantly tell myself I dislike such sickly sweet things. Also I compare the calories and think I COULD have such-and-such for the same calories, something I REALLY like, cheese for example 😊

But deep breath, today is anew day, have you planned something tasty and healthy yet?

That is a good point. Time to get planning!
