Breakfast tips

Hello!

Having a healthy breakfast seems to be proving difficult... I get bored easily with cereals and they don’t fill me up, I’m trying to cut down my carb intake as well... which leaves me stuck... am not a big egg, tomato or mushroom fan.

I use to like the odd egg or two but after doing a PT (personal trainer) programme it made me ill to the point I couldn’t eat them anymore.

Any ideas would be great!

Why don't you have a look in the Topics Section, under Recipes - Breakfast.

You might also find it helpful to have a look in the Daily Diary to see what everyone else is having for their breakfasts.

Don't be stuck with 'breakfast' meals, Emma, there's nothing wrong with you having steak and salad for breakfast, or fish and sweet potato wedges, or curry and cauli rice.

Breakfast doesn't have to be traditional British fayre. Think of what's traditionally eaten around the world and there won't be many places that have cornflakes, toast and marmalade :)

You've reminded me. My gym trainer has fish cakes for one of his breakfasts. :)

Quite a few people have an omelette filled with veg for breakfast Emma. I like my greek yoghurt, oats and fruit - try to make it up to around the 380 to 400 calories worth - find it very filling and it lasts all morning without fail :)

You will find plenty of inspiration from the DD :)

Thanks everyone! 😁

I like a grilled gammon steak with grilled tomatoes and poached mushrooms but obviously you don't like the latter two :)

I mix a mushed banana with an egg and a dash of cinnamon. Put in the microwave for 2,5 minutes. Add a slice of wholesome toast and a small milk and you're set for the morning.

I crave sweet things for breakfast and this does nicely 😉

Just had a quick look through the Tom Kerridge book and there are quite a few muffin ideas under breakfast. Might be an alternative if your not a cereal / eggs, tomato, mushroom fan!

Oats work for me. The longest-lasting stomach filler I've found.

Muesli or porridge without golden syrup :-(

Shop bought muesli is ok (many have far too much sugar though but are reasonably filling). Lidl do a good one that is 50% fruit & nuts etc but even that has crystallised fruit in. I also make my own in largish batches - just normal oats with seeds, nuts & (unsweetened mostly) dried fruit.

The other day I had toast with a sliced banana on top sprinkled with cinnamon and some maple syrup then popped under the grill for a few minutes. Lovely
