So I put in my weight and it gave me a suggestion of eating 2,000-2,800... I struggle to eat my previous 1,700 never mind that!

Will give it ago anyways!

It gave me 2200 to 2900 but said to try and stick to the lower end. I did lose weight on 2200 about 6 years ago but I was able to get around and do things so was walking a lot etc. I'm 6 years older now and very inactive at the moment so I've settled for 1900 to 2000. If I start to get more active then I will up it a little. :)

Thanks justsharon! Wasn’t sure what to go for!

It's a case of experimenting to start with. Everybody is different but I know sure as hell I wouldn't lose weight sitting on my backside eating 2200 calories lol. Thing is not to go too low or you won't have much room for manoeuvre once the weight starts coming off and you need to reduce calories at some point.

Remember it also takes into account your current weight and activity level. I'm a inch and a half shorter than Emma and I was given 2200 to 2900 although I have opted to go for 1900 to 2000.

Which website gave you that. Any I have ever gone on give me 1200

in reply to Smiffyliz

The NHS website. I don't use other websites for checking what calories I need :)

It may seem like a lot but you will have been eating more than that top end to put on weight in the first place. If you eat below the lower level you are likely going to make your journey difficult or worse.

Hi emmasdiary , I saw in your previous post that you want to lose quite a bit of weight, so the range you quote doesn't seem high to me.

Your calorie range is based on your age, gender, height, weight and activity level and will reduce as you lose weight. I know it seems a lot but you need to reduce weight slowly if you want to keep it off. It's very likely you'll struggle and stall if you undercut it.

There's a lot of wisdom and experience on here that I've found really helpful, and you'll hear from them that you are best to eat within your given calorie range, starting at the upper end.

You could always give it a try for 2-3 weeks while you're getting used to the plan and see how you do :)

Shall give it a go! Everyone seems really helpful! Didn’t even know this existed until I found it on a website my GP gave me! Thanks everyone!

I just found it by chance when I was looking for some sort of support and was too tight to pay for WW or Slimming World :)

These are guides, as others have said she how you get on, was going for 1200 cals, but 1500 buys so much more!

Tho cutting out most of my sugar minus mini Aldi mister Roth choc bars have done wonders, something I refuse to give up!

I crave less stuff, and my tum seems flatter too

I manage very well on 1200 cals but I am 58 and 5 ft 1 . I was morbidly obese at 80kg in January and am now 68.5kg . It is the quality of food . I eat a lot of veg and have porridge for breakfast. As I detail shop I have found lots of foods I can eat . Not many snacks but decent 3 meals .
