It all depends on what your current weight is but I assume 1500 you will still lose weight. If you eat 500 calories less than your tdee a day you will lose 1 pound a week! So if your tdee is 2000+ you will definitely lose weight. Good luck!

My currand weight is 11stone 11 l put that in the app and it said 1517 so was thinking this would be what they recommend for my heigh and weigh plus age to still loose weight x

1517 sounds good then! You can try putting your details into this calculator, and it will predict what weight you'll lose each week. This was you can see if you'll still lose weight. losertown.org/eats/cal.php

Oh dear I weigh 145 lbs and it says I should weigh 95 and to lower intake below 1200. So really depressed me

Don't worry, that's not true at all. The site just says what would inevitably happen if you continued restricting your calories below matinence. It goes down to ridiculous weights like 70 lbs for an adult. It's not what you should weigh/eat! It's just showing how you'd lose weight each week even way past a healthy weight. I hope that makes sense!

Hi Cinders,

You'll be given a calorie range on the NHS BMI calculator and we always advise starting near the top end, so that you're eating as much as you can, while still losing weight.

As you lose weight, your allowance will drop, so if you start at the lower end, you'll have nowhere to go.

Okay thankyou 😊x

I have a theory! Bear with... The 1500 cals per day is some sort of average figure for a normally active woman. Basically one loses weight if one uses more calories than one consumes (eats & drinks). I never lost weight until I wondered what my calorie needs actually were and decided to find out!

Now I am in short, 157cm 5 ft 1", in bed on oxygen 23/7 and have a low heart rate, body temperature and BP - effectively I am barely operating following head injuries and a decade of undiagnosed Central alveolar hypoventilation (I don't breathe enough automatically). It turned out that my daily need was less than 900 kcal per day and to lose weight I set a target of 800. My maths teacher husband helped me set up an excel spreadsheet to record it all and this gives me the information to have an overview and not be too hard on myself! Typically 2 days per week are 'red' - over 1000 kcal - and a few 'amber' - over 800 but less than 1000 and now half 'green'. I recorded weight in metric kg as I just found it easier to look at the data objectively/unemotionally and do averaging calculations etc.

I have now been doing this for 200 days and lost the 2st/12kg in 180 days (but that did include Christmas, New Year and our birthdays!). I am only 5'1" btw. Now I am trying to do more exercise to eat more kcals and strengthen my muscles to combat my aches and pains. The routine of completing my Excel spreadsheet is quick and easy and I am not thinking of stopping it yet! My GP and Respiratory Consultant are really pleased as the extra weight was hampering the system...

So I would like to suggest that everyone is different and to get in charge KINDLY one needs to get to know one's own metabolism and explore what is right for one's own system. Also don't be in a rush or too rigid as that only makes it harder.

Btw on such a low calorie count I took a multivitamin pill daily and drank lots of water. I expect to be able to operate at around 1200kcal as a norm when I get there... ATB

Do u think l would be ok on 1500 cals then love x

IDK you would have to find out your own calorie needs by experimenting! Perhaps try that for a week and see if it has an effect - if not lower it to say 1300 and see what happens. Don't be in a hurry as the process of getting to know your own body/metabolism is not a quick one...
