I'm New Here Any Help Appreciated Please!!

Hi I'm new here, I desperately need to lose weight as I am at least 4 stone over weight and have obese BMI... I have tried so many diets over the last years, weight watchers, slimming world, diet pills from all different websites, I've lost 6,7,8 pounds, felt good and positive and then abandoned it all and put more weight on.

I have fibromyalgia, high blood pressure and feel terrible, I know if I lose weight my whole life will take a turn for the better, I got on the scales last night for the first time in a month and was appalled to see I have put on 5lb 😱 In just 4/5 weeks.

This has made me research and find this NHS weight lose help site, I have booked a GP appointment for next week for help and advice, joined this forum and now off to make a food plan from the advice of the NHS.

I have a very full on job that does not give me set times to eat or drink, does any one have any advice on making your own tasty lunch boxes or on the go food/snacks please. X

Hi Jojo,

Try and remember for all us fatties. There's no magic pill or diet that's going to help us. I myself over the 48 years I've been on this planet have often pondered why did I have to be born short and fat and look like Danny Dr Vito when I wear a suit rather than Daniel Craig. I would love to have taken a pill and ended up looking like Mel Gibson (even the night in them photos he got arrested for due and screaming anti Semitic abuse at the police officers would have been an improvement for me) but alas it wasn't to be.

All you can do is not think about this being a diet but just a conscious change not to over indulge and be mindful of what you eat

For me I've had to ditch the toast and butter. I just can't leave it alone once I've started. Crisps, biscuits and chocolate, pork pies, sausage rolls, all gone off the shopping list. Because that was all the extras that I was just scoffing and using loads of calories without noticing.

The booze survived but only 2 nights out of 7 now not 7.

Stick with it now you've started as Churchill said if you're going through hell keep going.

Welcome to the forum Jojostella I'm pretty biased but the NHS 12 week plan coupled with this forum is a winning combination.

Weight loss journeys often start well and look good as there is normally a bigger weight drop in the first couple of weeks plus we tend to eat a lot less than we should. I'm not saying that's what you've done but the problem with not eating enough is the body tends to react and fight back.

A gradual steady loss is more likely to see long term gains and that what the 12 week plan advocates.

Shout out if you have any questions at all and good luck!

Good morning Jojostella nice to see you here!! Seems like we have a lot in common. But I have much more to lose - about ten stones probably, but I'm just focusing on getting down to the next one - so currently I'm just over 19, hope to be in the 18s in the next couple of weeks.

Like you I have tried loads of different things in the very short term - mostly because the people around me (mainly my mum) pressured me into it. So, no success for me. And, like you, the smallest weight loss makes me feel amazing and like I'm a size ten, roflmho, which really doesn't help.

The pain from my Fibro makes exercise really hard and currently I don't do anything, I'm starting a pain clinic next week and am hoping that will help. Also of course constant fatigue doesn't help. Funnily enough though lately I have noticed my appetite is much less.

Anyway, before I start really rambling, you have definitely arrived in the right place, I got here after a C4 programme and am using the guidelines and advice for myself and my husband. I also use the MyFitnessPal to keep track of my daily calories - inputting meals immediately gives great accountability and the app lets you know projected weight loss, fat intake etc. etc. Quite a few forum members use it as well and best of all it's free - if you can put up with the ads.

I can't help with packed lunches - but my son takes a packet of that flavoured couscous to work, add hot water and some tuna for a delicious lunch. There are also a lot of lunch pot things around - some fishy ones. I quite like things that come in their own serving - one of my issues is skewed portion size, so for now I weigh everything.

Hope that you have a good day and that you feel encouraged, check back everyday if you can - there is always something going on and loads of tips and advice. x
