I’m new here!

Hi, I have been a yo-yo dieter all my adult life, I have done slimming world and weight watchers several times, lost the weight then piled it back on plus more!! I’ve done silly crash diets, even fasted for four days! I read somewhere it was good to do this once or twice a year! It didn’t feel good hiding the fact I wasn’t eating from everyone else and suffered horrific headaches to go with it!! I have worked as a teaching assistant for 30 years and loved my job but have recently relocated to Slovenia with my husbands job. I have suddenly found myself with a lot of time on my hands and alone for most of the day till hubby gets home. I cannot speak the language and know no one! As you can imagine the weight has piled on due to lack of exercise, routine and motivation!( and constant eating!) I thought I would do daily exercise dvd’s , go for long walks etc and I have found myself pottering about cleaning and not doing much else! I am currently suffering from a hiatus hernia, asthma and cannot fit in any of my clothes!! So I have decided it’s time to give myself a good kick up the old motivation bootie and do something about it!! I came across the NHS website this morning, so here I am! Day 1! I am going back to England at the beginning of June to visit family and I’m hoping I will be feeling fitter and looking better by then! I calculated my BMI this morning and was horrified to see the word obese!!! It’s one thing knowing your overweight but to see it in writing hits where it hurts!!! I am going out at the weekend to buy a mountain bike as there are some beautiful places with cycle paths so here’s to the start of a new journey!

Welcome JAstbury1 Are you following the NHS 12 week plan? The idea behind it is to provide you with the physical and emotional tools to allow us to maintain weight loss once we've reached our goals.

I like the idea of the mountain bike and the cycle paths. Sounds like it will be fun (as you get into it :) ).

Logging in here regularly is likely to help you get further than you would otherwise as the friendly, knowledge people are a great motivation.

Vso srečo! ;)

Great news but then I'm biased as it worked for me :)

The site can be a bit disorienting so do shout out if you have any questions.

Hello JAstbury1 and welcome :)

It sounds like you're feeling very isolated right now and could do with some company - well, you've found it here, with the added benefit of support and ideas to help you start a healthy eating plan. I know "obese" is a horrible word to see, but if it kicks us into reality and making essential changes, then it's done its job.

Take your time finding your way around, following the link moreless has sent you; the more you get involved with the forum, the more you'll get out of it. Have confidence that you can turn things around - not easy, I know, when you have been a yo-yo dieter, but you can. The 12 week plan is a different approach which means ditching diets for good, enjoying your food, increasing your activity and losing weight at a steady rate.

Good luck :)

Hi, thank you for reply, yes I guess I have been feeling somewhat isolated! My two children have been out to visit for Easter with partners so that’s been wonderful but also detrimental to the diet!! My youngest is still here , on holiday from uni and she is a great support so today feels like a good day to start! Thank you 🙂
