Newbie Making a Start on Weight Loss

Hi everyone,

Not sure what this thing is but figure chatting to others trying to lose weight/be healthier can't hurt!

I'm trying to lose weight but I'm very time-poor. I commute in and out of London each day which means I get home at around 7PM, and in my spare time I study law so that doesn't leave much time to exercise!

Any tips for getting a cheeky workout in to your day?

Hi and welcome

I have seen posts on here where someone, forgotten who so apologise, that works in an office and uses the facilities on a different floor - maybe something you can do

Download the NHS 12 week plan and try planning your meals and taking packed lunches for your lunch

Good luck with the studying

Wishing you all the best on your journey :)

Hi and welcome,?Sophie :)

Exercise counts only in a small way towards weight loss, but is useful for the feelgood factor and general health. In just a few minutes, you can use the stairs, instead of the lift. Do some squats/wall presses, when going to the loo. Get up from your desk as often as possible and walk around, Get a standing desk, if you can. Go for walks in your lunch break. Read while pedalling on a second hand exercise bike. Counter presses while waiting for the kettle to boil. Where there's a will, there's a way :)

Hello and welcome to the forum 😊

As Moreless has said, exercise can be fitted around every day activities, getting outside is a particularly important one 😊

With such a busy lifestyle good planning will be essential to your healthier eating, I highly recomend a slow cooker, batch cooking and freezing, and just being organised with your meals, planning weekly if you can manage.

Good luck

Please ask if you have any questions

I know the feeling!!

It takes me an hr to get to work and an hour home, so I tend to try go for a walk at lunch time to get some fresh air!

I also study for my accountancy exams so I find sometimes its is difficult to do workouts in the evening, but you could always try HIIT? Still a way of getting in exercise and burning calories but you only need to spend like 10 mins doing it! so could use one as a study break

I am similar to you in terms of spare time . I go to the gym before I come home from work and have tea ready or will have a quick tuna (113 cals per tin drained ) salad when I return . If you work Mon - Fri then check out weekend gym classes . Know it is an effort to be there for 9am on Sat morn but then get up a bit later on Sunday . Like others have advised try You Tube . I love Zumba as the music really zaps the boredom . I actually make the effort to put gym exercise gear on .

I agree with what others say about exercise. It is very easy to break it down into manageable sections. Granted I no longer go out to work (yippee) but my time is still precious. I found I can do quite a lot of on the spot walking while waiting for the kettle to boil/tea to brew.

I also walk to the next bus stop, or alight from the bus a stop earlier. I have missing the bus down to a fine art at the moment, so usually walk to the next bus stop just to keep warm! In fact I have done it so often, either I am doing it deliberately, or the bus is in collusion with my exercise routine.

I must admit I love walking, just so long as it isn't raining or snowing, or as it was on Monday icy underfoot. I'm having to be a bit careful at the moment though, dodgy knees. So I am doing a spot of weight training instead.
