Do you ever eat a pot of yogurt and think I wish there was a bit more in there.

As of late I've had to change more of my diet due largely to having found out I have diabetes, one challenge is that I have always liked ice lollies and they have had to go due to the high levels of sugar, but rather than simply cut them out I have been experimenting with natural yogurt and fresh fruit.

First try I used kiwi fruit, very nice but very sour, next I tried cherry but I also added some canderel, I found out that freezing yogurt that contains canderel changes the sugar content as that that was left over was much sweeter than that which had been frozen. In all that I have tried so far I have found a by product if you will and that is how to make my own sweet yogurt all I use is one large pot of natural or low fat Greek yogurt, 2 teaspoons of canderel sugar and 5 - 6 ozs of fruit put all ingredients in a jug and then I add a stick blender to get it to the consistency I want, then put it in containers (old yogurt pots with snap on lids) and put it in the fridge for a couple of hours.

Morning Pete57 , oh yes, I've often wanted a little more in the yogurt pot, I do love my yogurts :). I like the idea of making my own and will try what you have suggested, I always have mixed berries and other fruit in my freezer

I don't have a sweet tooth but will buy the smallest Canderel or similar and try a yogurt both with and without it

Thanks for your experiment

Actually I don't take any sweetener or sugar at all, gave it up when I left school. I went from an active schoolgirl to someone sitting in front of a typewriter....no computers in offices 54yrs ago :) .......the weight slowly crept on so I gave up sugar

I don't suppose canderel is so sweet that it will make me shudder :) it will just take away the sourness, thank you for doing the experiment, we can help each other so much this way

Hi Pete57,

Have you tried xylitol? It's a sweetener made from birch trees. As with many, you have to make sure you don't binge on it, or it acts as a laxative, but in reasonable amounts it's lovely.

It's also very good for teeth and health generally.

Try using mango, such a naturally sweet fruit. Hopefully you then won’t need any sweetener at all.
