Hi there! I've just found this site and have been reading your posts. My story is very similar to many if you, I'm very overweight, have tried slimming world and successfully managed to put weight on! I have T2 diabetes and my medical team advised that SW wasn't for me and so I feel like I'm floundering in the dark. I have done WW in the past and did lose some weight but then I had breast cancer. The upside if this is I lost 3 stone during chemo and in the last 12 months the weight is creeping back on again and I've regained about 1.5 stone. It has to stop. My partner and his daughter live with me and won't eat fruit and veg and are more keen on breaded chicken from the freezer and chips than a home cooked chicken dinner and we can't afford for me to eat differently from them. Sorry I've blethered on a bit.......Sam 😊

Hi and welcome, Sam :)

It seems to me that your partner and his daughter need to be made aware of the importance to their health, as well as yours, of eating fresh, unprocessed food. They wouldn't want to end up with T2 diabetes too!

To keep your diabetes in check, you need to be following a low carb diet, which precludes breaded chicken and chips made with white potatoes! Have you all tried fresh chicken, with sweet potato wedges, instead?

Hi Sam my kids don't always want to eat healthy and pull their faces at stews and things, but they do eat it and enjoy it, you could try a healthy option 3 times a week and see how they go with that, they will benefit too . It's worth a try. Good luck!! Julie x

Oh Essbee71 , sounds like you've got some negotiating to do. You're not going to develop a healthier lifestyle and lose weight without making some changes to the way you eat.

Maybe your partner and his daughter don't realise you're thinking mainly of your health. They might think it's just about how you look and they're happy with how you are. There needs to be some give on their part to support you in this. Of course, it will benefit them too, but if they are not interested in the gains for themselves, that will be difficult to sell.

It is difficult on a tight budget, tho' in fact I've saved money on the NHS plan by planning meals and not having to dash out for something last minute, or getting distracted in the supermarket. How about seeing if there is anything, just one thing, they will try in the way of fruit and veg? It doesn't matter if it's repetitive.

You've had a lot of health concerns and I hope your partner and his daughter have been there for you during it all. You'll need to ask them for their support and co-operation going forward, so you can make the changes you need.

Good luck :)

You're not blethering Sam, just saying it as it is.

Would it cost any more if you had chicken fillets in the freezer and you oven cooked your own sweet potato chips, with some veg.

The others have already made some valid points that you may be able to consider, especially the one about planning. If you plan for the coming week, you may be more likely to work out how you can fit your healthy living in amongst their lifestyle and still keep costs down.

I hope you have fully recovered from your breast cancer treatment. The NHS 12 week plan has some good ideas you can try. There is also an website you can try to find easy and healthy recipes nhs.uk/oneyou
