A bit disappointed to see no weight loss but given all my med issues I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I've been eating a lot of fruits and veggies, very little butter (and I love butter but now use next to none). I have trouble sleeping due to menopause which robs me of my energy. I sleep only a few hours per night on the nights that I can actually get to sleep. I'm on antidepressants so can't mix a lot of stuff with them. Doctor knows of the sleep issues and says it will get better when the menopause is over. Have appt with the surgeon in January abt my gallstones. I'm already on a very low fat diet because of the gallstones as an over intake of fat causes me great pain that lasts for 12 hours or more. I'm trying to exercise but it is sporadic because of my sleep and energy issues. Is it normal to not lose weight in the first week? Am I stressing about this too much?

Hi longliz1888 sorry you are disappointed with no weightloss in your first week. Some people don't lose in their first week, some people do and some people put on. The important thing is there is no weight gained. Please don't get discouraged.

Getting to grips with this new healthy lifestyle can take time and, what I have realised, alot of patience.

I read in your last post that your calories allowance is roughly between 1440 and 1990 if I remember rightly, but you are eating around 1400? I know it sounds weird but please try and eat at the higher amount. Start at around 1900 and gradually reduce the calorie intake over time when you are happy with the rate of weight loss. You may be pleasantly surprised in the coming weeks.

You have a lot going on with health issue. Don't try to solve them all at once, take it one step at a time. Your immediate issue is gallstones so keep to the low fat diet and don't worry too much about exercise. Do try to get out for a walk in the fresh air at least once a day. As you gradually solve the problems you will be able to do more.

Lack of sleep and rest is a nightmare on its own. If you can take a nap during the day until your sleep pattern improves.

Don't stress about it too much, it takes time. You are doing good.

Thank you for the vote of reassurance. I won't worry too much if I go over the 1400 limit. I don't feel hungry at all so I'm assuming that's a good thing. We do try and get out daily and walk the dog but for some reason he's been not wanting to walk like he used to. He's a small dog and encountered a bigger dog that growled at him so now he's constantly looking over his shoulder waiting for it to appear. Must get him back on track too. Lol. I try to do running in place at home. A few days a week for 30 minutes. Hope to work the time up when I have more energy. I feel like I'm being lazy but am just so tired from lack of sleep. If I nap during the day, I am awake all night so I try not to.

Thanks for the support, it's nice knowing I am doing the right things and not to be discouraged.

It’s not unusual for weight loss to be slow or sporadic . . . I didn’t lose much initially and it has always been slow but I wasn’t in a hurry, the changes you are making are for long term results. 😊

I’m sorry you are not sleeping, I also struggle with this but it is getting better with exercising more and I’ve also cut our caffeine.

I hope you start to see those pesky pounds fall away soon, do you join in with the Daily Diary?

What is that? I'm doing the NHS choices food and activity chart which is helping. Have also got the nutracheck app. The app is good, keeps me on track with recording everything.

You might just need to be patient with your weight loss as you have so many other things gong on. I guess you need to avoid whatever gives you the gallstone pain, at least for now.

Hi

Maintaining a stable weight on lead up to Christmas is a achievement itself so just keep going:) if you are eating less energy than you use then the trend will be downwards but may take a few weeks. Especially with stress and lack of sleep-our bodies do strange things! I hear you on the menopause - I can't remember the last time I slept more than a few hours at a time due to hot flushes! Perversely exercising gives me energy - though doesn't help me sleep better so many be worth persevering. Also upping your calorie intake as others said within the range may be worth trying -it's got to be good to be able to eat more, especially at this time of year:)

I have trouble eating the calories I'm eating now. I eat properly, don't skimp and still have calories to spare.

Others here may be able to comment further but are you eating enough then? If you eat too little your body easily adapts and goes into "starvation mode" where it gets very efficient at surviving on less calories. Upping them a bit may fix that

I'm eating and I'm not hungry. I was never a big eater even when I was young. I've just replaced junk food for healthy food. I eat a good breakfast lunch and dinner. Last night had mac and cheese along with some veggies. My only bugbear is drinking water. I can do two glasses sometimes three but I have to talk myself into it. I just don't like water.

Make sure it's actually the fat that causes you gallbladder pain and not the carbohydrate that's generally eaten with it, longliz. I used to think it was fat that caused mine, but a process of elimination highlighted the fact that fat is rarely eaten on it's own, it's generally eaten with bread and potato.

Try eliminating the bread and potato, instead and see if that makes the difference.

Remember that fruit contains a lot of sugar too, so don't overdo the consumption. You can get all the vitamins and fibre from vegetables, that can be obtained from fruit.

It's not necessary to drink straight water, as long as you're drinking enough water-based fluids for your needs, so tea, and coffee count.

It's not just pain. I have 8+ gallstones that need removing and doc says low fat. I don't eat a lot of bread or potatoes either . Nice to know tea counts as water. Will be sure to add that to my water count. Thanks for that! 🤓🤗
