Hi and welcome Hidden you do a fantastic job, it's not one I could do :)

You have come to the right place for support and advice to lose weight :) I am going to tag RG07 as she does shift work too and maybe able to offer you some ideas :)

I would like to invite you to join our Newbie Club, which we hope will be a good place for you to connect with members, who are also just starting out, or re-starting.

If you just post a few words on the December Newbie Club thread to introduce yourself and respond to others there you will soon feel part of the club.

Follow this link to the Newbie club: healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Please read all the information carefully, it is very useful and can be referred to whenever you want to check something.

It just remains for me to wish you well on your journey

:)

Good morning Hidden

I understand your dilemma... But with advanced planning, preparation and determination you will succeed. Ensure you plan you meals in advance, shop, prepare, freeze if need-be or store ready to go.. be the role model you want your 15 year old to follow, not just in work ethic and caring, but in healthy life choices too.

The link Hidden has given you is the sat-nav to the forum which will help you find your way around to join in and become part of the forum family..

Cheering you on to success 🎉🎉🎉

Hello Hidden as cracker 10 has said I work 12.5hrs shift a mix of days and nights. Do you have access to a microwave at work? If you do- what I do is have a mass cooking session and divide the food into portions- (I live on my own so its a bit easier- I cook meals for 4-6 then divide them into whatever the meal is for and then freeze. I have breakfast before I leave- though I had to build myself up to this, since I used to feel nauseous at the thought of eating at 5:30am- I started with just having a yoghurt then built up to muesli. I have my main meal at work- usually pasta and various sauces, curry & rice or roast veg/tagine with couscous. I have 1 hr break which I split and depending on my calories I often have yoghurt +/- cereal bar for the second break and then something light when I get home- sandwich, hot dogs & bun or burger & bun or soup.

You could also make extra food when you cook for your family depending on what it is and freeze ready to take into work. I am a vegetarian so I can eat more than meat eaters because calories in soya/quorn products are less than meat.

The important thing I have found is planning a head and deciding what I will be eating for the week. If you use MyFitness Plan you can put the recipe in and it works out the calories for you. Good luck

Im exactly in the same position working in a care home does have weight gain implications but we have to challenge it. I’ve been working in one for four years now and I’m nearly 18 stone. I’ve got to do something about it and hope to get the support I need here so let’s keep in touch.
