Hi Donna2006 and welcome. This forum is full of information and support. Please take the time to read through the information moreless has provided. It is important to calculate your calorie allowance through the NHS BMI, as 1200 calorie amount suggested in the 12 week plan is a general limit.

I to have all three conditions and lucky enough to be only on medication for high blood pressure and I too want to be drug free. I am currently trying the Blood Sugar Diet but its early days.

Have you a dietician to give you the extra support?

Its a hard old slog but we will get there! Good luck.

Hi and welcome to the community!

I was diagnosed Type 2 at the beginning of September. Weighed 14 st 2lb, Hb1ac of 68, Fasting glucuse 8.6, Cholesterol 5.6 and Triglyderides 7.6 (which is horrendously high, but lower than it had been). Was prescribed Metformin, but I already vaguely knew about the Blood Sugar Diet, so read up on it properly (there's a website, and an inexpensive book, plus support groups) and decided not to take Metformin but do the diet instead. My GP was fine with this, but the Diabetes Nurse was quite antagonistic. However, I figured given all the research done in recent years and the building evidence that for many this is the way to go, I decided to stick with it. Now, just over three months in, my weight is 11 st 1lb, Hb1ac 32, Fasting glucose 4.1. Cholesterol is down to 3.6 and triglycerides to 1.6. Saw my GP today, and she has said I can stop my cholesterol meds, and statins, and if my blood pressure also stays lower over the next three months, I can stop the blood pressure medication too (my blood pressure HAS reduced already). What's even better is that I'm going to repeat all the tests in 3 months, and provided they are along the same lines as today, they will write "Diabetes resolved" on my notes, which means I won't have to declare it on health insurance (or travel insurance) documents - great news!

A final note, my GP is going to speak with another GP, the head of the diabetes team in the practice, and the diabetic nurses and suggest they read up on it, and start to recommend trying it. Ok, there are some people for whom it might not work, or who may not want to do it (though quite why you WOULDN'T want at least to try and reverse your results and avoid the risks of NOT doing, I'm not sure!) but at least they would be making a more informed choice.

It CAN be done! And once you accept that there are things you aren't going to eat again, enjoy all those you can (and there are lots of those). Plenty of people willing to support you too.
