Postcard from Tenerife!

Thought I’d check in with you all! It seems we chose the right time to get away from the UK judging from the snow pictures I’ve seen on Facebook!

Having a very relaxing time. I’ve been eating a LOT more than usual (and enjoying alcohol - which I rarely do when I’m at home. But the good news is that my plan to do half an hour of walking each day is happening! Half an hour of walking for me, because of my disbailot6, is like half an hour of running for anyone else.

I brought over my FitBit and trainers, shorts and sports socks.

Tending to have a light breakfast - yoghurt, boiled eggs, fruit or a combination. Lunch we prepare ourselves. I’ve been having a tuna and avocado salad - they grow avocados here on the island and they are much nicer than anything you get from the supermarket at home.

Evenings we have tended to eat out - fish or meat with salad and maybe a few potatoes or chips. Eaten some really nice fish!

However, last night we found ourselves eating Italian.... I chose a pizza.... very nice wood fired oven pizza (white one) with Spanish sausage and sweet sun dried tomatoes. Had bruschetta for a starter (excellent!). Probably should have stopped there, but we moved to a coffee and cake place and I had a huge slice of apple tart. To be fair, it was a huge amount of apple rather than pastry, deep rather than wide... ok, ok, I’m making excuses. Didn’t need it and probably should have tried the cake place on another occasion rather than after pizza! We also each had a Baileys coffee 😮

The good news is that it’s not cold here! Seems weird seeing all the pictures of snow everywhere whilst we are sitting in our bathers! The weather is perfect - about 20/21 and sunny. Less wind and a little more cloud yesterday. Tomorrow forecast to be up to 23 but more cloud.

We woke late today (8.45) and I was tempted not to do my exercise. I’ve been walking for 30 minutes in a small park at the end of our road every morning that we’ve been here before it gets too warm (9 - 9.30ish). However, I got myself out of my pit and instead walked up and down our very long covered veranda which was actually better than walking in the park as I was able to count “lengths” and was also walking faster on the smooth even surface than I can on the rough volcanic sand surface in the park.

Managed to get my heart rate up into the “zone” for 41 minutes and had done my 3000 step daily target by 10.30! Also earned myself an additional 100 calories (around 250 in total). So now I am boiling hot, but feeling very accomplished and for probably the first time since I owned my FitBit I’m about to hit my 5/5 days of exercise goal 😁

Today’s plans. Doing some washing, food shopping and staying in to eat today. We’ll have steak and salad. It’s a lovely, peaceful bird song filled garden, so staying “in” is almost more enjoyable than going out! And we have a dishwasher 🙂 There are four accommodations (including the first floor of the house we are occupying the ground level of) and no other occupants for the time being. It’s been this way since we arrived, but even when the other properties are occupied, the garden is such that you have lots of space and privacy.

Picture shows my “running track”....
