Old but New to the side

Hi to all,

I opened an account ages ago but never used it. Maybe too busy trying all the diets on the market out there. In the meantime I gained more and more weight and need to loose 6 Stone to be back in the healthy BMI zone. So here I am 3 minutes before midnight ready to start a new day, new healthier life and hopefully a little lighter every week. And YES!!! I would love to do this before and during the festive season.

Hoping to make some friends here too.

Starting at a whopping 16.6 Stone

I'd like to invite you to join our Newbie Club, which we hope will be a good place for you to connect with members, who are also just starting out. If you just post a few words to introduce yourself and respond to others there, you'll soon break the ice. Here's the link

Welcome again zagemeel

Following the link that moreless has already provided you and taking the time to read it all, is going to be a big step forward towards a new healthy.

The other way I'd suggest that you can really help yourself will be to visit this site regularly... daily if you can find the time. Most 'long termers' here will tell you that the more you involve yourself then the more likely you are to succeed.

One of the differences you may find here is that the focus isn't on 'dieting' but on healthy living and that is healthy living in a way that is sustainable well beyond the point where you have reached your weight loss goal.

All the best.

Welcome to the journey to Good Health and Fitness.

Take one step at a time and keep moving in the right direction.. like a Tortoise and one day you shall surely reach the finish point.

Its good to focus on nutrition, mindful eating, long term results rather than quick fix diets.

One famous Diet consultant said "Any diet that has a name is not worth following"

What this means is that fad diets are always temporary and the results also would be temporary.

Find Fitness and Discover your strengths.!! All the best :)

Well done on making the decision, and not putting it off until January as so many people do 😊 in the next 2/3 weeks you can make an excellent head start and create sensible eating patterns that will help you over the festivities

Best wishes

Anna

I will work on that IndigoBlue61 . Never been this heavy in my life and I really really don't want to go into the new year another number of stones heavier.

Welcome zagemeel this is definitely the place to come. Now you now that none of the proclaimed diets work concentrate on a healthy lifestyle.

For me that means ditching the carbs (bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, most fruit), eating tons of green veg, good healthy fats/oils and a moderate amount of protein.

I also operate on won't power - I decide what I won't put in my mouth. Generally speaking if it isn't good for me I just don't eat it. I am not a paragon of virtue but eat fabulous meals and any cravings for carbs, including chocolate have gone. Crisps used to be a huge issue for me - I think i have had on small bag this year, just not interested.

Take your time, weight loss in not a race, it went on slowly and must come off slowly.

Look forward to seeing you around.

Ceals I always start every day with this idea but then fail every day over and over again. Ever since I stopped smoking now 9 years ago i just eat and eat like a cow grazes on grass .

Can I ask what kinds of things you eat? If they are carbohydrate based then the chances are you will only feel full for a short time. I wouldn't touch anything that is low-fat/diet food because they have all kinds of stuff in them that impact on your hormones.

Have some good healthy fats - butter/olive oil/coconut oil/avocado (my favourite), good cheese and double cream as part of your meals and you will be fuller for longer.

I know it is not what we were all told about healthy eating as we grew up but all of the high carb/low fat nonsense was based on flawed research. I don't eat bread, potatoes, rice (cauliflower rice is wonderful), pasta or indeed any other grains as we have not evolved to digest them properly. It does take a bit of getting used to but it is a) doable and b) delicious.

I eat poached eggs on slices of griddled avocado with a side of mushrooms and spinach fried in a bit of butter and then with double cream added - it is delicious.

Have a look at Daily Diary for ideas and in the recipes in topics.

Whatever you do keep coming on here and learning a bit more about healthy eating and healthy lifestyles and you really won't look back.

Take care

will fill you in on what i eat a little later. My meals are quit good I just snack in-between way too much.

Hi, Its good to have awareness of the hurdles and roadblocks, like in your case it seems to be snacking, which you mentioned.

Usually people on diet, eat less or starve in meals and have more snacks in between. So you can reverse it. In the sense it is better to have a heavier meal with more salads, and an extra bread is better than a biscuit later on.

Also I would suggest to read a beautiful book called "You can heal your life" by Louise Hay. It had a tremendous impact on me. Its available on the internet.

All the best!. Keep getting better everyday. One step at a time. :)
