Hey- I'm a newbie!

Hi I'm Meg, I'm 18 and weight 11 stone.

I've never weight this much before, and having put on 2 stone in about 7 months I'm quite unhappy in myself.

I have always been uber on it with my weight and health, majorly last year when I was down to my best and ideal weight of 9 stone... loosing weight did however become a little bit of an addiction to me though. I stopped having my periods and suffered more with dehydration and iron deficiency- also greatly with a substantial lack of energy.

I don't know what changed in me except in January of this year I became a lot less bothered about my weight and in March I started a new job at a pub where food was just in unlimited supplies... and all the wrong kinds of food!

I would really seriously love to get back down to 9 stone in a healthy and energising way!

I'd love to do this as soon as possible... my aim is 4 months.

My major downfall is my tendency to binge eat... chocolate mainly... and the occasional PACKET of hobnobs 😫

I do often struggle with my blood sugar though, and I think the sugar in chocolate gives me a bit of a boost... just not a while bar meg!

Anyway, this is a bit about me and my aims.

I'm hoping writing and talking about my achievements and struggles on here will give me boosts and help me at my low points.. as well as straying me away from unhealthy ways to loose weight.

Hi MEGChall, so frustrating when you see your weight spiralling out of control. So pleased you made the decision to change.

My advice would be eat little and often, to keep energy levels ups. Exercise regularly and find exercise you enjoy.

Be careful not to become obsessive about what you eat, as this slippery road.

Best of luck.

Good to have you with us Meg. We are all here for weight related reasons, great people to share with and no one will pass any judgements.

Think you are spot on about the sugar in chocolate and hobnobs being an issue - they really aren't helping. Have you tried developing a taste for rally good (90%) dark chocolate. Much less sugar and generally one square is quite sufficient.

I have completely lost any sweet tooth I had once I realised how dangerous (and unnecessary) sugar and other refined carbohydrates are. We can get all our nutrients from a moderate amount of good protein and good healthy fats.

I wish you well on your journey to your new lifestyle. I look forward to seeing you around.

Hi Meg, do you mind saying how tall you are? Just wondering if the halfway point, say around 10stone, would be more sustainable, rather than pushing so hard to be 9st. If you're 5'3" or taller then 10st would be a perfectly healthy weight for your height. Then you could use your 4 month window of time to develop some long-term healthier habits, e.g. doing couch to 5k, or finding ways to introduce healthier options during your shifts in the pub, and break the weight gain cycle once and for all :) If you follow the Newbie link above you'll find loads more useful suggestions too :)

I agree Hidden

At 18 your body is still finding its own personal healthy weight ‘set point’ MEGChall . If your periods stopped at 9stone then that is obviously too low.

More importantly, as Ruth and Ceals also suggest, is eating nutritious foods and focusing on health, not easy when you work in Hospitality I know!

Please read all the welcome information Morelss gave you don’t be tempted to eat too little.

Best wishes

Anna

Welcome Meg. We come in all shapes, sizes and ages on here, but with the same aim: to become and maintain a healthy weight.

Sounds like your previous way of losing weight wasn't very healthy for your body - ie: missed periods - but now the most important thing is not to see this "as going on a diet" , but to learn a new relationship with food to keep you in good health as well as a slim shape.

I was a plump young woman who either starved or binged, but eventually I now understand that "we really are what we eat" . Sadly I now have older, sick, even deceased friends who never learnt this lesson. But you are young and wise enough to tackle this now, slowly and safely, a pound or so at a time until it becomes your way of life. We're all with you!

Welcome to the community!!

Hi and welcome, I think a nice filling meal before your evening shift might help with the temptation at work. Or set one night a week as your treat night for dinner at work and bring a protein packed lunchbox. I find protein helps me feel Fuller for longer. Some fitness through the week will be sustainable too. Good luck
