bad day today - back on track tomorrow!

So today was rubbish - once I'd given in to a bar of chocolate it went downhill all day. I think it is true that bad food is addictive - just makes you want more. Have really felt the difference today so I feel pretty well motivated to get back to health tomorrow

Well done Hidden for getting back on it and not giving up. We all have setbacks and the only way to reach our goals is to keep going.

Each time I have a setback, I try and work out what it was that led me down a particular path and then try and plan to prevent or deal with that situation the next time.

Good luck!

Just remind yourself that you are not saying you will never have that food again. You are just putting it aside for now and giving yourself a chance to redirect your priorities regarding food. When you feel you are stronger and are comfortable in your new ways you will add them back in under moderation.

We all have bad days so well done for carrying on and not giving up. You can do this, just keep going and it well get easier once your into a routine with your healthy eating. If you think things like chocolate are going to be tempting try not to have them in the house or maybe use a low calorie choclate drink in it's place.

Yep know that feeling, I had two mints yesterday and then a piece of millionaires and I am not usually a sweet tooth person :O

I am sure today you and I can be more self controlled - wishing you a great day ;)

I dont believe there is any such thing as bad food but I do think there can be food cravings and it takes a lot of patient watching and learning to find out whats going on. I think sugar can be a bit morish especially refined sugar. I have found chocolate cravings with myself are often down to low magnesium so if I start craving chocolate I have an epsom salt bath. However for me the biggest cause of craving in my life has been undereating. My body will crave food with lots of calories if I have not eaten enough ( it obvious this will happen to anyone isnt it)You may well find if you increase you calorie intake, try to eat a wide variety of foods that you really enjoy and aim to lose less than1 pound a week but at least 1 pound a month you will feel satisfied and able to maintain a healthy weight loss ( especially if you plan some really nice treats once or twice a week and I mean the stuff you are calling bad food) Mindfullness is also helpful to reduce the impulsive urges to eat when you do not need to. Also and this applys to anyone on the forum have a look at thyroid uk to double check your thyroid. The Uk has probably the worst thyroid care in western world and huge numbers of people are told they do not have a thyroid problem by GPs when they would benefit from some thyroid replacement. Low thyroid hormones will make it very hard or impossible to lose weight especially long term.

It is a buzz word at moment but so true, being mindful of what you eat and not just because your bored and the food is there in front of you when your not even hungry.

also meditation practice especailly mindfulness helps you tolerate discomfort better so you are able to sit with uncomfortable emotions and stuff with out trying to stuff your feelings away with food. Mind full eating is wonderful. I did a mindful eating experiance once and ate a current and took an hour to do so. It was the most pleasurable thing I have ever eaten.

really interesting and helpful. Magnesium is a supplement I am interested in because I have had a lot of muscle soreness and apparently it helps so double reason to give it a go.

do you add epsom salts to the bath or can you ingest in some way?

in reply to

I put it in the bath and it has really helped me re chocolate cravings. Most people are deficient of magnesium. It is great for sore muscles and also helps you get a good night sleep and so best done on an evening. Also helps with restless legs. I find the connection between lack of vitamins and foodcravings and over eating quite interesting. Ihad to have a lot of blood tests a while ago. Thye took about 8 tubes which andI thought at the time I am going to haveto replace all the nutrients lost and I wonderred at the time if this would effect my eating. I bought some iron but have been thinking about food and over eating some times since. I am now on some good multivits.

Hormonally I crave sweeter foods but sometimes that craving can be helped by adding a few grapes to a salad or some sweeter tasting veg to a main meal like peas or sweetcorn and having fruit for a dessert. I also have now taking a liking for dark chocolate something you don't need a lot of for that craving - Milk choc I just seem to want to eat more after one bit so can't control it.

It is generally the carbs in bad food that is addictive. The more often you don't eat them the easier it becomes to say no.

I very rarely eat chocolate anymore, if I do it is really good quality dark chocolate and generally one square is enough. I am amazed but that is just the way it is.

Keep on keeping on, you will get there.

Sorry to hear that but it's still so easy. Spent this morning eating raisins before I realised about the sats.
