Hypertension? What does it mean.....

I have just moved from Derbyshire to Devon. The moving has been stressful and I became unwell with a urinary tract infection. Changing doctors entailed taking my own blood pressure and when I looked up results of 121/73 it said this was prehypertension! Always had low blood pressure before, so am concerned about my change in health implications.

I eat plenty of vegetables and no fried foods or take away meals. Have drunk more coffee over the last month and perhaps more red wine, so are these causing hypertension?

Can anybody advise me please?

This is a PERFECT blood pressure

bloodpressureok.com/reading...

You are not hypertensive in any way. I guess if you wanted to presume that ANY blood pressure reading before hypertension is prehypertensive then yes but....no your blood pressure is absolutely normal.

And don't forget your body is not a machine and blood pressure readings are not exact. You would get a different result even if he waited 10 minutes. Your blood pressure should be a combination of it being taken several times. If you are stressed when its taken then it will be higher. This does not mean you have high blood pressure it means at the time you were stressed. Same with being angry or feeling tired - all will result inm varied readings.

Hope this helps :)

Great! Well I don't feel so worried now....just sorting out the height of the chair to get my whole arm in the pressure machine was stressful!

Thankyou for your help!😊

Just checked and as Dave says on bloodpressure.org that is an ideal normal reading. Caffeine can affect blood pressure if too much is taken but your reading is normal.

Thankyou for your reassuring reply......the coffee and wine must be drunk in smaller vessels!

What a lovely photo 😊. I’m glad we have reassured you regarding your blood pressure. However, do you realise this is the Weight Loss Forum? You don’t look as if you need to lose weight!

Best wishes
