50 but no longer frumpy

Hi, I joined weight loss NHS a while back but didn't use it at the time. It was just another long list of half hearted attempts to get myself healthy. I did read the posts but that was about it. Until I hit 50 which wasn't easy for me. I put even more weight on and exercised less. Although i was only a stone and a half over weight i felt awful and began to feel low. Over the years my weight has yo yo'd dramatically which i'm know makes it harder to loose weight.

10 weeks ago I knew i had to do something to change my mindset. I bought a food and exercise journal in which i wrote down my goals and what changes i was going to make. For me it was sugar, wheat and wine which was my issue. I was a sugar binger and did it in private, chocolate in my car so i could hide the wrapping. So i wrote everything down which is quite powerful when it is staring back at you.

At the end of each week i write down what has gone well and my goals for the week. For me exercise has been vital. I now exercise 6 times a week at home with a dvd, doing strength and cardio. I no longer binge but still have an odd treat so i dont feel like i'm being deprived. Just healthy eating, increased water intake and now drink gin instead of wine 😊.

I have lost 10lb in 10 weeks and feel better alredy. 1 lb a week is fine, I used to feel frustrated at low numbers but is the best way to do it. Sorry about the essay but i feel the frustrations of people on here and have been there. A journal, achievable goals and exercise is the only thing that has worked for me after years of trying every diet out there, goodness knows how much wasted money! My health is now my focus, i'm 50 but now feel i'm in better shape mentally and physically than i have ever been 😁

Thank you for sharing this gillst – and I totally agree with you, keeping a journal really works wonders for me too – I was bingeing on sugar too, like you, mostly chocolate bars, and also biscuits – but keeping track of it all, even, or rather, especially, on the bad days, does help keep in under control...

Well done for your weight loss, and glad you've found a way that works, and that you're feeling loads better in body and mind!
