What an incentive!

My husband has just booked 10 days in Sri Lanka over Christmas & New Year! He talked about it but, I didn't think he would do it! Never been on a big holiday & we are going with our grown up sons!

I am now trying to get my head around using this as an incentive to get my weight down. Just a stone would make me so happy! I think if I aim for any more I'm going to end up disappointed. Any advice would be appreciated!

Im green with envy! I went to Sri Lanka in February and it was wonderful. Such friendly people and such a stunningly beautiful country.

You can easily lose a stone before Christmas. Think about how much better you will feel in your own skin! How much more you will be able to enjoy hiking, snorkelling, swimming, sun bathing with your sons and your husband!

Picture yourself happy and healthy on the beach! Hold on to that image and go for it!

Thank you PippiRuns

I am excited but, I know I'm going to enjoy it more with some weight off.

So here goes? What's the food like out there?

Wow! How exciting, what an incentive.

I would make a bee line for Daily Diary and always plan ahead, i find it so important.

Check what your calorie range is using the BMI checker and DO NOT be tempted to go to the lowest point on the calorie range as your body needs good nutrients in order to sustain it whilst you are losing weight. Try to cut down/cut out processed foods, they are full of fats that are bad for us, same with carbohydrates, body just doesn't need carbohydrates. Eat heathy fats that will keep you satisfied and off snacking.

I have never relied on will power - I think won't power is much better i.e. I won't put it in my mouth if it is not good for me. I also tell myself that I deserve not to have something if it isn't good for me.

Good luck, what a delight to look forward to.

Thank you Ceals . I understand most of what you are saying. Just wanted to question the carbs. I have a Spin class tomorrow evening & I have always thought I should be eating carbs directly after. What's your opinion on this?

That's sounds an amazing trip. I love travelling so can appreciate it as a great motivator to lose weight.

Now all you need to do is make a plan how you will do it. There is the 12 week plan on here and details of other diets but bottom line is you need to calorie count so you can be sure you are eating less calories than you are expending.

You can increase your expenditure by increasing activity

A fit bit helps as it records an calculates calories you eat and your steps and other activities

So get cracking and you will lose that stone by the time of the trip

Best wishes

Great time of year to go, not too hot. I haven't been there but been to Kerala which is close with similar climate. Good luck with weight loss!

Good for you. Try the 12 week diet. It's a good one. That should do it.

A fantastic reason to do this dazzle although I'm sure you will have a fabulous holiday regardless.

However, shedding a stone should help you feel great on one of those gorgeous Ski Lankan beaches if you get time .

Hi elliebath

I'm so determined to lose a stone. I would be over the moon! This really is a big holiday for us. We've been saving for years!

I feel that this is a huge incentive for me!

Then give it your best shot. Use the Bmi calculator, understand exactly how many calories you can have, and work out a plan for you.

In my case, that was higher cals one day, less cals the next, fab healthy food one day, a glass of wine the next... etc . being so flexible helped me stick at it. But I kept to a weekly maximum calorie plan . (In fact in maintenance, I mostly still do )

I hope something similar works for you to lose your stone, and to keep it off !!

Thank you! I've got 2 1/2 stone to lose but, I'm concentrating on a stone by our holiday!

Great attitude and a sensible target to start with.

In 2014, I was 12st and needed to get down to 10st to simply become a healthy weight. Looking back, my loss was quite slow but steady, it took me ten months to lose that spare 2st .

I was thrilled to reach that 10st target of course, but as it turned out, I went on to lose a further 1/2 stone during maintenance, without much effort.

Just read your reply elliebath

You have really encouraged me.

Thank you.

Good. Take it steady 1-2 lbs a week, some weeks maybe nothing, but just keep at it and it will drop again. There is proven evidence that the slower the loss, the better the body adjusts, and a much greater chance of keeping it off.
