Struggling

So it's my weigh in day tomorrow and I know I've lost a couple of pounds but I'm starting to slip.

I'm substituting proper meals for things like chocolate and haribo which is ridiculous.

I have my first holiday in years booked for kos in may 2018. I'm desperate to get to my goal weight by then, I keep imagining how great I will feel in the sun, in a pair of shorts. (usually I never get my legs out as that's where all my weight goes). But here I am sabotaging myself.

Just hoping by writing this post my brain will click back into healthy eating mode.

You've done exactly the right thing Amanda36 week two is a tough one. The newness has worn off but the good habits haven't become deeply established yet. I have no words of wisdom apart from focus on your reasons for doing this. And have enough to eat! Have you joined the Daily Diary? This is great for inspiring food ideas to prevent boredom and complacency 😊

We are all cheering you on 😊 Best wishes

Anna

Announcing publicly and facing up to it is good news as that is the first step to getting back on track

Now give away all that stuff which lurks in your house and sit down with pen and pencil work out your next meals for the week and write a shopping list

Come on you can do it

Thank you for your support, I really appreciate it. I think writing a list is a good idea. I have cakes and chocolate galore in the cupboards as I have kids (which I know they really don't need to eat either) but I will not be buying anymore from today.

:) x

That's good. You will be setting them a good example and saving them from habits which could lead to their weight becoming unhealthy too. Why not have a day at the weekend when they have one treat outside the home so it is not their to tempt you or them.

You are doing well

You'll be okay. Just don't give up and keep on going. Just imagine those shorts!! I bought my first pair or shorts in five years a little while ago and it felt great!

Thank u, I will keep imagining them lol. I really don't want to be in greece, sweating because I'm to big to put shorts on. I just spent the summer doing just that for the 5th year in a row. :(

You've just taken a great step in the right direction. That's very brave of you as it isn't easy to post when you know you're not doing the right things.

If you're calorie counting, I found that I didn't put anything in mouth unless I'd written down beforehand, how many calories I was about to eat or drink and written down what it left of my daily total. A number of times I ended up taking food off my plate when I saw what it was adding up to and that goes for treats such as choccies too. BTW Haribo are my all time faves so I can understand how easy it is.

You can do this Amanda36

There will be troughs as well as peaks so don't let this get you down. Dust yourself off and look at this moment as the moment you start again.

Good for you for sharing. Ask yourself what do you want more, the chocolate and haribo 😨 or that fab body you are working towards!!! The positive thing is you are cousiously aware of what you are doing. Before you put anything in your mouth ask yourself is it healthy, will I be satisfied and am I truly hungry. Are you eating enough at each meal and the right balance of protien, carb and healthy fats in each meal??? If you can go for simple quick meals. (Salmon, rice and veg) You can do this....it's a new tomorrow, you can't change the past or see into the future but you can take each day as it comes.☺

Thank u. I will absolutely start again today, the haribo are gone and I definitely won't be buying anymore. I don't know why I did it. I knew I'd eat them all. :) x

Hi Amanda36 - and well done for recognising what you are doing and seeking support here!

You're at that danger point now (2/3 weeks in) where usually people give up and give in - go back to eating as they did before.

But you're not going to let that happen are you? You're not going to let your efforts of the past two weeks be ruined by a few jelly sweets full of additives... :o :o :o

:D Make a list of the reasons WHY you want to lose weight. Keep it somewhere safe (stuck to the inside of a kitchen cupboard door?) and look at it from time to time, especially when you are raiding the kitchen for treats! Stick a picture of yourself where you're at your heaviest (and one you don't like!) next to it.....

I always ask myself before eating something really calorific "Do I really want to eat this thing more than I want to lose weight this week?". It's called "mindful eating" - being aware of why you are considering eating - real hunger? Boredom? Temptation? Feeling fed up?

Have a glass of water, wait 5 minutes and consider whether you still want the food. Once it's been snaffled down, it's too late and you may end up feeling cross and angry with yourself....

....and that feeling (guilt, failure) lasts for a long time, much longer than the temporary enjoyment of whatever treat you ate....

Oh, and I always remind myself how good the feeling is of seeing a loss on the scales at my weekly weigh in! That wonderful feeling lasts for days! Don't forget how that feels - you need to remind yourself of that feeling next time temptation strikes!

Thank u for your support. I really needed a pep talk. I will definitely start again today and try to practise mindful eating. x

Hi Amanda. Like you I have started to struggle (week 3). I am back at work and finding it difficult to keep going when working long hours, feeling tired and stressed - hit the comfort food. I know planning is the answer but I justI ignore the plan and eat the trash instead or go for takeaway. Found all of these replies really helpful - I am going to try to refocus on the goals and keep, going. Thank you for your honesty because it helped me to be honest with myself and stop excusing my choices. I don't think I would have done this if I hadn't read your post. :)

Ah that's great, I'm really pleased my honesty helped you. I have the exact same problem. Rushing in the morning to get kids school, working all day then shattered when I get home (single parent). Having to cook tea, clean etc etc and then sitting alone in the evening thinking about food :( x

How's about spending time in the evening planning what you'll eat the next day? Or perhaps even use that time to cook a healthy meal that can be put in the freezer or is ready for the next day?

I find sitting in front of the TV is one of the worst triggers for making me snack on unhealthy stuff because of all the cookery programmes and food adverts!

Last night I was watching Bake Off and it made me really crave some bread as it was "bread week"!!

Well done for fessing up.. Now draw a line under it. Even maintainers go off plan sometimes. The difference is how soon you call a halt to it. You've done that now and we're all here pulling you back up onto the wagon.

Every half pound lost brings you closer to your goal.

Make sure you're getting enough real and healthy food to nourish your body.

Best wishes to you😊
