Time to do something

I'm in my early 50's with 3 grown daughters and since my first was born 28 years ago I have been overweight, now they have all left home I am determined to do something about it, I also have arthritis in my spine and knees and I am worried that if I don't lose the weight I am going to end up unable to walk in a few years

Welcome Woodfordl yes, i think I am loosing baby weight too - my youngest is 31! We can do it for sure. Sorry to hear about your health issues, hope losing weight helps them.

I would like to invite you to join our Newbie Club, which we hope will be a good place for you to connect with members, who are also just starting out, or re-starting. If you just post a few words on the September Newbie Club thread to introduce yourself and respond to others there you will soon feel part of the club.

Follow this link to the Newbie club:

Please read all the information carefully, it is very useful and can be referred to whenever you want to check something.

It just remains for me to wish you well on your journey.

Hi Woodfordl and welcome. I'm 55 in a few days time :-) I have one daughter who's almost 21.

I started my weight loss journey at 14 stone - 5 and a half years ago. I was 49 years old and had been trying to lose weight all of my life since the age of 9.

I started my journey at the end of February 2012, and managed to lose 4.5 stone in 2 and a half years through calorie counting and logging/weighing all of my food.

Then re-gained some, lost some again and have now managed to more or less maintain for the past 6 months.

BUT... ideally I would love to drop another stone and maintain there.

I have a disability which makes exercise difficult, but the one thing that I realise very early on in my journey was that I was just eating FAR TOO MUCH! I was a VERY short (4ft 9"), middle aged, sedentary female and I was eating the same as 5ft 9" active man (my now husband!).

No wonder I was piling on the weight!

Here are a few of my past posts which I hope you will find helpful and inspiring. I won't try and tell you that my journey was easy - and you'll see that there were many blips along the way, but 5 years down the line, I feel about 20 years younger than I did when I was lugging around 4 stone more.

Please do pop back to the forums and share your journey with us - we are here for you, day and night and happy to share your success or support you when you need it.

Hi Woodfordl and welcome :)

You have done the best thing by joining this forum as you will get loads of advice and support which really helps.

We are about the same age and I also have arthritis. I was told just losing 5% of my weight would half my pain levels so definitely worth trying it ;)

Good luck
