Medication problems

I thought I'd been doing quite well, a slow but fairly steady loss :-)

But my latest med is causing me grief - first water retention, next I need to take it with a lot of fluid and preferably something to eat :-( twice a day.

Now I've got a common side effect which is it's not doing my digestive system any good at all! so disturbed sleep and other problems and the weight is yo-yoing. I want to comfort eat which isn't going to help at all.

Sorry just needed to grizzle a bit.

That sounds tough to deal with. Choose something healthy to eat with your medication, maybe use it as snack time.

Try eating some kind of healthy fat which will keep you satisfied for longer and congratulate yourself each time you don't give in to unhealthy eating.

Good luck and take care.

Thanks Ceals. I've not had problems with digestion before (one of the many reasons for being fat in the first place) so find it a bit hard to find something healthy and soothing. I think yoghurt may be my friend here!

Yogurt is so good. Full fat Greek yogurt is great, are you OK digesting full fat options?

Normally I have no problem digesting anything :-))

Love greek yoghurt but normally have the low fat variety, prepared to try full fat tho

I think the full fat version is much better for us, keeps us fuller for longer and there is no chance of any hidden sugar or sweeteners.

I only have plain yogurt anyway, and add fruit etc myself so I know what's in it. Flavoured yogurts are far too sweet for me. Mind you if they invented a savoury yogurt (like tzadziki maybe, but, oh I don't know, with veg or cheese or something), I'd be in serious trouble!

That is an interesting concept - a savoury yogurt! You've got me thinking. Crumbled cheese mixed with a good yogurt and baked with parmesan sprinkled over the top!

That sounds fantastic!

Have that recipe on me and tell me what it is like when you have tried it!

To be fair, I do think it is worth a try and just might.

You could of course put a dent in it and crack an egg into it to make it substantial - I could go on, I get a bit like that with deciding what to cook!

Oh dear docmar 😕 Maybe you need to put the scales away for a little while and focus on eating for health and nutrition until you get your medication and digestion sorted 😕 You can gain pounds and pounds with fluid retention 😕

I do hope you get things on an even keel soon,

Best wishes

Anna

Thanks Anna61. I'll try not weighing, and maybe go back to looser waistbands for a bit.:-)

Meantime I'm going to sort a list of healthy but not too exciting snacks to take with / after the meds...

Good plan!

Try measuring the parts of your body not suffering with water retention and you may get a nice surprise if you can stay more or less in track instead of weighing yourself. Check how much food you have to eat with your meds - what about a small bag of popcorn, cheese triangle or cracker for a change from yoghurt. You can do it.
