Hi, I know losing weight is daunting particularly if you have tried unsuccessfully before (like me). If you really want to do it you can by making small, sustainable changes. How much do you want to lose? I would set small goals like half a stone at a time. 🤞Don't be scared, we can support you!

Just take it slow and reward yourself with non food things along the way. You'll start to look forward to losing weight.

Food is closely linked to mood mandyflatt 😕 For years, (on the dieting see-saw,) I ate food I didn't really enjoy because I though it would help me lose weight. Then felt deprived and miserable and 'broke' the diet.

This time, by counting calories, I eat all my favourite foods but in smaller amounts, so don't feel deprived. 😊

Have you joined the Daily Diary? You can get some wonderful ideas for meals

Hi Mandy :)

Maybe look at the weight as a side effect. Use healthy eating as a way to help you feel better and the weight loss as a side effect of that.

Can your Doctor recommend you to someone for a bit counselling for the weight? Just to help get past the feelings you have when you do lose weight.

Do make sure you are actually eating the right amount of calories in the first place. This was always my problem with losing weight in the past. I never ate enough calories as I always tended to only eat around 1000 Cals thinking it would help me lose weight faster because it was less, but this caused me further problems because my body thought I was starving it and turned everything I ate into body fat and this weighs more than eating the extra calories does so it stops you from losing weight and sometimes puts weight on instead. When I was told this I upped my calories to the amount advised by the NHS bmi calculator as this gives us personal amounts for each person and gives us two amounts we can eat between. The other sites like MyFitnessPal for example tend to give just average amounts for all women and another average amount for men. You can still use these sites to add up your calories during the day but just don't forget to make sure you continue to add up to the amounts you should advised by the bmi calculator and not the amounts they say to for themselves. Good luck with your journey.
