Hi I'm new to the forum and wondered if any of you work in school? if so are struggling to keep your weight stable or to loose weight during the long summer hols?

It really gets me down each year 😒 I've gained 12 pounds in four wks off work. I don't drive and walk everywhere. I've also started up a walking group. We walk twice a week raging from 5 to 7 miles.I lost 2.5 stone on slimming world 18 months ago. Got to target weight and put it all back on 😒 Any help or support would be appreciated as feel really down about the way I look and feel.

Don't feel bad. We are more than our weight you know what to do. Get started again and look towards the excitement of all the changes. It's all up from here. Stop feeling bad right now. Try the happiness challenge. It really does keep you positive. Good luck to you on your journey!

Hi and welcome - Don't look at it as a diet but a life style change :) You have got to your target weight before so you can do it again and the bit it sounds to me that you are struggling with is maintaining once you have got there :)

Plenty of help and advice on here :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI (can be found in the pinned Newbie post) to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊

To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support - which is great to get ideas of what other people are eating and I have to confess to nicking some of their menu's and our β€œWhat's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊

Thank you for the informative reply. I'll try my best to get to know the website and navigate myself around it. I haven't come across the weigh in or daily dairy yet. I did take measurements 2 wks ago before starting my walking group so I'm hoping to see some change soon.

I am aware that my routine is very different when I'm off work. Late get ups, skipping breakfast, late evening meals 😏 X

I work in a school. This hols I was struggling with my weight, but I've been trying to do better for a few weeks now.

Hi Wendy, thank you for replying. It's good to know others have the same struggles. Routine is very different during school holidays. I work in early years so my job is quite active too.

Let's hope the pounds start to shed soon 😏 X

In addition to the increased physical activity, you need to watch your plate and closely monitor your calorie intake. Food is the main challenge for majority.

Hi Matets, thank you for replying to my post. I have used the BMI calculator that shows calories my body needs. Unfortunately I'm not a lover of calorie counting weightloss. This is why I favoured slimming world as it's more of a lifestyle change than dieting. X

There are apps that make calorie counting easy. The one i use is called Track and it's free. Other people use my fitness pal with hreat success. I found counting calories a real eye opener. I had been on WW filling and healthy plan and didn't realise just how many calories i was eating. No wonder i wasn't losing weight.

Hi again 13Valerie, I can't seem to find an app called Track on the App Store. Could you send me a picture of the app please? I have an iPhone so I know some apps are only available on android or IPhone not always both. X

Hi sorry you can't find it and so sorry i haven't a clue how to send a photo. I went to play store and searched track calorie counter and it came up. It's a picture of an apple crossed with a calculator. I recommend it cos its free snd simple to use. Maybe MyFitnesspal would work for you? Many people on the forum use it

Thanks 13Valerie, I ended up downloading MyNetDiary. That's a picture of an apple with an measuring tape across it. It's so good. I would definitely recommend it. Thank you for your help, you've convinced me to give the calorie counting ago. I feel like I've got my motivation back too 😊 xx

Glad to pass it on... i was amazed by how many calories i was eating although it was all healthy food. You can get your calorie allowance somewhere on the NHS site too but sorry i don't know where it is. Make sure you're eating enough.

Hi MrsHaz,

I work in a school and struggle with boredom eating. The summer holiday is the worst as it is soo long and you ca slide completely out of routine.

I find it easier if I keep myself busy and out if the house. If I am in the house then I normally get into cleaning or organising.. I am also terrible for signing on to the remote server πŸ™ˆ.

If I do have a moment to sit down and watch a movie or read a book I prepare fruit and have it in a bowl near me, so I dip into that rather then the bread or cheese..

Hi MrsHaz and other school employees,

I too work in a school and I think we just don't realise how active our job is. I got a Fitbit (other much cheaper similar products are around) and that demonstrated to me how much I move on an average school day, so I can make sure I do that and a bit more in the holidays also. It is difficult without the routine, I am driven by my workload in term time and so without it, lose motivation in holidays. If the Slimming World way worked for you previously, it may work well for you as a permanent lifestyle. For me, the 12 week plan is going well, although naturally slow as I am away on holidays - taken my scales with me!

The Fitbit is a great idea and I have considered purchasing one although the price somewhat put me off 😱 I don't drive I walk to work and back each day so there's a deficit of 3 miles per day. If you think 15 miles a week and the steps I normally do whilst working, it's no wonder the weight isn't shifting! Enjoy the rest of your holidays. X
