Help, why can't I lose weight?

Thanks for letting me join. I have battled with my weight for the last 10 or so years. I am now at my heaviest at 13st 13lbs. I have 2 children but my youngest is now 7 so I can't even blame them anymore! I am so unhappy with my weight but for some reason I try to lose weight for a week or so and then just eat and eat so it doesn't really work. I have tried Slimming World & Weight Watchers but never stick to these for more than 2 weeks. Any support/tips would be greatly appreciated.

The twelve week diet is great. That's how many of us have lost. You just need to calculate what calories you need to burn fat and eat plenty of good foods and lose. It's easier than it seems. You can do this and maintain it. I've seen it time and time again. I'm struggling to eat enough right now. It's a scientific equation that works but is hardly done because we think we should starve. I've done that and only gained weight. Really. You can do this. Try and when you see a little difference then you'll be more motivated. I promise. Just really try.

Hi and welcome

you have come to the right place for support :)

Best thing to do is - DO NOT look at this as a diet but as a new healthy way of eating :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI (can be found in the pinned Newbie post) to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊

To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support - which is great to get ideas of what other people are eating and I have to confess to nicking some of their menu's :) and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊

Wishing you all the best on your weight loss journey :)

You've pin pointed why you can't lose weight :) you don't stick to it. The 12 week diet IS great because it gives you a set end point and teaches you a sustainable method of controlling what you eat.

It's time to have a look at why you can't seem to stick with trying to lose weight. Are you trying too extreme a diet? Losing weight doesn't have to make you hungry or force your body to go without enough food and nutrients. It's about eating the right amount of calories and avoiding the wrong foods.

Are you trying to change too much too soon? Sometimes it's easier to change one small habit at a time - having a healthy breakfast or giving up bread to start or going without crisps and/or chocolate.

Are you emotionally eating? It's hard to conquer this but not impossible if you can pin point the things that make you turn to food.

Do you lack support? Having the right support is crucial. If you can't find it at home then this forum is perfect for giving you the right motivation and support on bad days as well as good :)

We're all human and we all struggle. You just have to find it within you to commit. You can do it :)
