I need to lose a little weight. I am 75 and up until 2016 my weight was around nine and a half stone and had not been a problem. Last year I had 'unprovoked' DVT and due to that, I had to stop taking HRT. I think that is when the weight gain started. Unfortunately I also had a perforated duodenum, so lots of antibiotics which led to C-dif. (worst year of my life.)

Now I exercise every day by walking a couple of miles, I have also joined a pilates and yoga class, which is hard but worthwhile. I have an excellent diet and try not to eat too many carbs. I take multivitamins and minerals and probiotics as my consultant suggested. I like to have the odd chocolate, perhaps 2/3 per day......... surely that cannot be the problem. I need to lose between half and one stone. To get me back to a weight that my body feels comfortable with........any ideas please? (I appreciate my extra weight doesn't seem much to many people, but it's interfering with my walking, making my back ache after a walk, which I have to do because of the DVT.)

Hi tansy-ann8 and welcome.

Really sorry to here of the various traumas you've been going through. You seem to have come through them with a good positive attitude.

If you think your extra weight needs dealing with then we're here for you. I needed some reassurance recently just over a few kilos that I'd put back on.

A lot of people here follow the NHS 12 week plan, which an admin will point out to you shortly. It certainly helped me to knock off 2 1/2 stone since xmas.

The best thing to do is get involved here, reading, responding, joining in with the challenges etc.. (admin will explain also). The more you do, the more likely you are to succeed as the site is full of friendly, helpful and supportive people.

Good luck on your journey.

Thank you Tiggerr, I know it doesn't sound much but it's like carrying a bag of potatoes round all day to me!!!

Sure it does tansy-ann8.

I always work mine out in bags of sugar. I really wouldn't be happy carrying one bag of sugar around all day unnecessarily. I was carrying 18 bags and I think yours works out at about 11. If someone gave us a rucksack with those amounts in it, I doubt we'd get through the day :)

Exactly my point. I realise that some are struggling with huge amounts of weight to lose, however, pro rata there is no difference....it is still difficult to shift and still distressing. Thank you for your kind comments. (I worked it out at one and a half bags of potatoes) lol

Hi and welcome, tansy-ann, :)

All weight loss is important. It doesn't matter if it's a few pounds, or a number of stones, especially if those few pounds are interfering with your health. I'd like to introduce you to wa2un7 , as I believe you may have a lot in common :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the NHS BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.

To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Welcome to the forum, tansy-ann8. I noticed moreless suggested we might have some things in common. I'm 77 next month so we are in the same age group. Like you I have some health issues . Mine involve mobility and breathing. I joined this forum to lose around a half stone just to feel more comfortable in my clothes. I lost one and a half stone with the support of this forum. I could go a lot further but am maintaining at the moment until I decide if I want to do so. I did it by simple calorie counting using the healthy BMI calculator as my calorie range. I cut out nothing as I knew to do so would set me up to fail. I simply counted everything that passed my lips and after a slow start the weight started to shift. I see you enjoy chocolate. I do too and built in a sweet treat every day , 100-200 calories, so that I never felt deprived of my favourite treats. I found checking into the forum regularly was a big help as there was always someone around to congratulate or console. Above all there is never criticism or judgement just sound practical advice or suggestions. Good luck. I look forward to following your progress.🤗

I'm not the worlds greatest with IT. However a weigh in thread is posted each day and can be found in the events section of the home page. I will be hosting tomorrow i.e. Monday. You will find a link for the NHS site in your Newbies welcome post and from there you should be able to access the BMI 🤔calculator. Sorry if I've only served to confuse you and if I've got it wrong hopefully someone will correct it.
